The name "Souleuvre en Bocage" was chosen to name the new municipality. This name refers to the Souleuvre, a river that crosses the municipal territory. It flows into the Vire, and into the Bocage Virois, the natural region of which the commune is part. Investing in La Maison des Bruyères is a real journey into the heart of nature. This wild place on the edge of the forest (to which it owes its name), offers panoramic views of the Normandy countryside. In the covered shed, relax in the private jacuzzi to be ready for the day! Unusual The mysteries of the Souleuvre Viaduct? It was built between 1887 and 1889, according to Gustave Eiffel's plans. It allowed the Caen-Vire railway line to cross the Souleuvre valley. During the Second World War, the viaduct escaped destruction on several occasions. It was the Allies who sought to destroy it, due to its strategic position in an occupied Lower Normandy bocage. They will drop no less than 500 bombs, all falling beside it! The structure is therefore only partially damaged. In 1988, AJ Hackett discovered the site that reminded him of the one he had just created above the Kawarau River in New Zealand. The first jumps took place in November 1990. It's convenient... 2 min walk, that's how long it will take you to reach the village of Le Béni-Bocage, where you will find all amenities: bakery, delicatessen, grocery store, hairdresser, bar-tobacconist...
