Thunderbird: a haven for hikers, birders, artists

Nestled at the foot of stunning Red Butte, Thunderbird Suite is southwestern decor with antique furniture. Just outside the glass doors, is a desert landscape of Saguaros & other Sonoran natural desert cactus & trees. Thunderbird is an independent, private suite added onto the main house, with a wall separating it. There is laundry available just next to the private bath with shower & tub. The space Beautiful desert location in SW Tucson, near Gates Pass, Saguaro National Park West, Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, San Xavier del Bac Mission, Casino del Sol. 15-20 minutes to downtown, University of Arizona, Historic 4th Avenue, and so much more. 20-25 minutes to the Tucson International Airport. An ideal location for hikers, birdwatchers, & artists. We’ve brought the warm, gentle colors of the desert inside the suite! Furnishings include a queen-sized bed, desk, rocking chair, & a granite topped island with (pod) coffee maker, electric kettle, induction burner, convection toaster oven/air fryer & microwave. Mini-fridge also in suite. An additional folding table for meals, work, and study. Parking just off the private porch and WiFi are available. Sit at your own garden cafe table and watch the hummingbirds & teeming wildlife, including bunnies, quail, doves, woodpeckers, cactus wren, and, hopefully, the red tail hawks or great horned owls soaring above Red Butte. Listen to the coyote jamboree in the evenings & the owls hoot at night. There is a small firepit near the patio cafe table. There is also a larger, communal fire pit nearby in the common area between buildings if you’d like to warm your hands and stargaze. The separate entrance from main house, with private sitting porch surrounded by hummingbird feeders, is accessed with a personalized door code. The suite is cat or dog-friendly (same daily price/no additional fee) & there are dogs in residence on the unfenced property (separate from suite). Parking is on the property, just outside the Thunderbird. Other things to note About the desert: as the saying goes, just assume everything in the desert is pointy & sharp, and don't put your feet and hands where you can't see them. Flip-flops and sandals might be ok in downtown Tucson but not in the desert or mountains. There is a 30-40 degree spread in temperature year-round. Sometimes that means it's 34-70, sometimes that means 80-110. Packing layers is the way to go. And a sunhat! If you bring a pet, keep in mind the property is unfenced and there are natural dangers of the desert. House rules are: keep dogs on leashes and eyes open! If you have a feline friend, please consult with host about the dangers of the desert. Note that suite is not childproof (locks, outlets) and doors exit straight into yard/desert.
