The two nearest trailheads are the Hobo Gulch trailhead and Canyon Creek trailhead, both a moderate drive away. Guest access You will have access to all the walkable grounds of the property and surrounding forest, in addition to your private cabin. Other things to note We believe that the greatest gifts our guests can receive from their stay here are the un-tangible qualities of being immersed in the natural world, free from the chaos and distractions of modern society. It is an experience which we are sure will both touch your heart and restore something essential within your own human soul! That being said, we want to convey that this rental is a charmingly rustic and somewhat vintage house set in an untamed wilderness. Expect some small imperfections and quirks. There are many elements beyond our control, and so we ask all guests to please read ALL THE WAY THROUGH the following information before booking so that you can make a fully informed decision about embarking on this unique experience ... KIDS: The cabin & property are not childproofed in any way. Because the environment may be hazardous for toddlers we are not currently hosting children under 4yrs old. We are genuinely sorry about this but for the safety of our guests we feel it is the most appropriate guideline for this rental. DOGS: We love dogs and welcome your furry friends! However, we do have some necessary parameters: YOU MUST INCLUDE DOGS IN YOUR RESERVATION DETAILS. There is a limit of 2 dogs per reservation. Aggressive, territorial or destructive dogs are prohibited. If dogs are causing any damage to the yard, house or anything else you will be asked to create immediate solutions or you may be asked to leave with no refunds. No dogs are allowed in any of the sleeping areas. If your dogs go into any of these bedroom spaces or if we detect dog hair in any of the household bedding you will be charged a penalty. We do not provide dog beds. Please bring a bed for your dog. Dogs may not sleep outside or cause noise disturbances between the hours of 10pm - 8am. Finally, please note that the the heartworm parasite is present in this area, so if you are visiting during the months when mosquitos are out (May - October) please consult with your vet about heartworm prevention medication before your visit. WILD ANIMALS & INSECTS: This is an un-fenced wilderness property and all manner of wild animals, birds, reptiles, amphibians and insects pass through the land freely and in great abundance! This might include bears, rattle snakes, rodents, mountain lions and stinging insects. Please use your own judgement in visiting the untamed mountains. No refunds will be given for wildlife encounters of any kind either inside or outside of the house. ELECTRICITY: Our electricity is generally very reliable and constant. Because we are on-grid and located in a remote location, when the power does occasionally go out we are reliant on the utility company to restore our power. Usually the outage will be fixed within a few hours, and within 24hrs or less, however in very rare instances it could be longer. In case of an outage the cabin is outfitted with a back-up generator which can be run for no more than a maximum of 5 hours per day. PHONE SERVICE: There is no cell phone service on the property. The nearest cellular service is a 20min drive down the road. INTERNET: The satellite internet is generally fast enough for web browsing, streaming and video calls. If the power goes out the internet will not be available except when the back-up generator is turned on. To date, we have had no internet interruptions, however please note that we cannot guarantee the internet service or speed. HEAT: The primary source of heat is the wood burning stove. Firewood will be provided for your stay as well as electric heaters. A/C: Two window A/C units are installed during the "hot" season (generally June - August). HOT WATER: The hot water heater runs on electricity and is situated inside the house in the corner of the main upstairs bedroom. You may hear the appliance running softly from time to time. DRINKING WATER: Clean drinking water is provided at all times. WATER SYSTEM: Our water system comes from a snow fed artesian spring. Due to the inherent nature of the natural water system some amount of fine sediment coming from the taps is normal and safe for household use. Generally, there is ample water for dishes, bathing and laundry. However, on rare occasions the flow of water can become interrupted due to clogged valves, leaks, etc. Or when we need to make necessary repairs. DRIVEWAY ACCESS: To access the land be prepared for the 1 mile steep dirt driveway off of the paved road. There may be bumps, puddles, potholes, rocks, branches, fallen trees or other obstacles on the road. There is a seasonal stream crossing which flows through the yard near your rental cabin. It generally flows January - May and is almost always shallow enough to cross in a low clearance car. If you do not wish to cross the stream with your vehicle there is a place to park and a walk-bridge for shuttling your things to the cabin. CAR ACCESS: AWD is preferred any time of year for guaranteed comfort and accessibility. Summer If you do not have access to an AWD, the road is accessible by 2WD vehicle during the dry season only (June - September or anytime that the weather has been dry). Generally speaking, most 2WD sedans will be able to drive up the road, we even bring the family Prius up on a regular basis! However, we cannot guarantee the capability of your particular 2WD vehicle or a guests individual comfort and skill level driving on a steep dirt road. Winter An AWD vehicle is required during the wet season (October - May, or anytime that it is wet). Chains may be required during snowy conditions. 2WD cars are prohibited during the wet season. WEATHER / VEHICLE COMPLICATIONS Refunds will not be offered for weather-related or vehicle-related trip complications. We encourage all guests to ask us about the current road & weather conditions before they arrive. SEASONAL FLAME RESTRICTIONS: We enforce a strict "No Flames" policy on the land May - October. This includes wood campfires, however we offer a gas fire-pit on the patio so you can still enjoy firelight evenings under the stars! Further details of this policy will be made available when you arrive. FIRE SEASON & EVACUATION: Fire season in Northern California is generally between May - October, however it should be noted that a forest fire can start at other times as well. There is only one road in or out of the valley and this the only evacuation route. In the case of an official evacuation warning or a mandatory evacuation order a full refund will be given for any remaining nights in the reservation. Refunds will not be given for smokey air conditions or for nearby forest fires if there have been no official warnings or orders issued for our address. HUNTING & FIRE-ARMS: No hunting or shootIng of fire-arms is allowed within the valley. Any harming of animals, or shooting of guns, anywhere within the valley is prohibited. However, you are welcome to bring your game back to the property at the end of your hunting day. NOISE DISTURBANCES: Excessively loud music is also restricted outside on the land as it can disrupt and disturb the local wildlife during sensitive mating, nesting or foraging times.
