Hod Hasharon was founded in 1964 as four small villages - Magdiel, Kfar Hadar, Ramat Hadar and Ramataim - that were united into one municipality. Founded in the 1920's, these four villages were for decades small agricultural communities growing citrus groves and orchards in the fertile terrain of the Sharon region, in the center of Israel, a short 13 kilometers to the northeast of Tel Aviv. Officially declared a city in 1990, Hod HaSharon has experienced rapid growth with a mixed land use pattern of parks, orchards, industrial parks, high-density residential neighborhoods and the low-density neighborhoods of the original historic villages. The city still retains a pleasant 'village' atmosphere while offering all the amenities of a modern urban environment.
