Description
Similar to how the monasteries of the past were centers of craftsmanship and the exploration of knowledge, the Lehm-Kloster is also a place for learning and gathering. The official guest house of the European Educational Center for Clay Construction in Wangelin got its name because of the Spartan-minimalist decor. Behind this minimalism, however, there are a number of fascinating refinements that make the house a true temple of recycling. You’ll love it! The space Here on the edge of the Mecklenburg Lake District, not far from Plau am See, lies the small village of Wangelin. Here the world is still in order and time passes more slowly than elsewhere. The Wangeliner Garten is a heavenly piece of nature where we warmly welcome you! The Lehmkloster accommodates 5 guests in a single room. The rooms are furnished with a bed, wardrobe and chair. Bed linen is included. Please bring towels. Simply and conveniently furnished, the rooms offer you good value for money. Over 3 years, the Lehmkloster was consistently built in an ecological construction according to a design by architect Dirk Zaske and opened in 2012. With its almost exclusively reused materials, it implements elements of the circular economy and thus combines natural building materials with recycled materials. The basic structure of the Lehmkloster is the ruin of a former wheelwright's shop in the village of Wangelin. At the beginning, brick masonry was built up here with recycled stones and insulated with straw bales. Clay and lime plaster form the characteristic rough exterior facade of the clay monastery. Similar to the walls, straw bales were also used for roof insulation. The roof surfaces were greened with lean lawns. Insulated with wine bottles, the floor is made of handmade clay tiles and split bricks, creating a warm rustic atmosphere. The heart of the interior of the clay monastery is an impressive handcrafted clay oven. It is centrally heated by hand and gives the kitchen and rooms a cozy ambience. All rooms are provided with clay plaster and the wooden fixtures consist mainly of poplars from the surrounding area, which were felled by the storm. The wet areas in the bathroom and kitchen have a special look: Tadelakt - a traditional Moroccan marble lime plaster - was used there.
