Description
Nestled into a rocky outcrop in Victoria’s High Country, Robbie Walker has designed and built an off-grid family home with integrity, beauty and the grit to withstand the extremes of its surrounding environment. Balancing openness to the exceptional views against the imperative for shelter from the elements on the exposed hilltop, Mansfield House is a home of two halves. The space Mansfield House presents a panoramic view across the rugged and expansive landscape of Taungurung country – this terrain and its unruly weather conditions are formative to the home’s design. The north-facing half of the house features double-glazed, floor-to-ceiling windows on three sides, framing the most exquisite views. To the east is Mount Buller, and to the west you get crazy sunsets over Lake Eildon. A concerted effort was made to privilege the vast scenery with minimal obstruction from the building. The beautiful, off-grid house, has a master bedroom and ensuite, with stunning Mt Buller views. Down the long hallway are two bedrooms, a bathroom, large laundry and large rumpus room. A video of the house can be seen on the Local Project website. The house sits at the top of 119 acres. You are free to roam the property and admire the wildlife. Approximately 500m past the house and over the hill (not visible from house) is Mansfield Tiny Home, which is also on Air BnB. You may see these guests drive past the house when they arrive/leave. It's designed for couples and they keep to themselves. We have a strict, no party, policy. The driveway is monitored by a camera so please respect that our maximum number of guests per stay is strictly, seven. Also, please note, the driveway is approximately 1km long and quite steep. A 2WD car gets up the driveway with no problems, however, if you are an inexperienced driver you might feel more comfortable in a 4WD. The pool is solar heated. It's beautiful and warm in the summer months. Guest access Guests will have access to the whole house. Other things to note During the summer months, take advantage of the cool breeze in the morning and evenings by opening the doors at the east and west ends of the house (use pins to lock doors open). Air conditioner can be used between 10am-4pm when sun is out and batteries are charged. To keep the house temperature cool, no fires in summer.
