The Matthews Cottage
Description
This special cottage was built in 1920 by Robert Stephens, an early settler. The walls and floors are built with old growth fir and still retain their warmth and character. It has been totally renovated with a love for its history. New windows and screens on the porch offer the perfect place for a nap. Stephens Creek runs through the property and Stephens Beach is just round the corner with downtown Roberts Creek a 5 min walk away. Unique with its water view, woodlands and bubbling creek. The space This lovely home has the original old growth fir floors and walls, cooling cupboard, and of course the clawfoot tub and bathroom sink. Whenever possible its original construction was preserved. Its warmth and energy is apparent from the moment you step foot on the property. There is an ocean view and the sounds of Stephens Creek running through the lower end of the property. The front porch is filled with sunlight on a sunny day and perfect for an afternoon nap while listening to the creek. A queen size bed in the master bedroom but please be aware that one of the windows of the master bedroom opens to the front porch where the futon couch resides and provides a double bed for extra guests. Also please note that the porch is unheated and not usable as an extra sleeping space in the cooler weather. The stove is 24 inches which means you can do all that you need except roast a bigger bird or choose to do your roasting on the Weber grill. We are on a septic system so nothing in the toilets except human waste and TP. It is self check in. Guest access Roberts Creek with its Gumboot Cafe, Gumboot Restaurant, health food store, and the Roberts Creek General Store is a five minute walk down the road. the Gumboot Restaurant is also a commissary with one of the best wine selections on the Coast. They have a great take out menu which can be eaten outside or off site. Lots of goodies inside so take a look. Stephens beach is also just around the corner and is a sandy beach at lower tides, and once there you may continue walking westward to Roberts Creek beach. You are five minutes to Highway 101 to access other areas of the Coast. Cliff Gilker Park and the Sunshine Coast Golf and Country Club are minutes away. Biking trails are within easy reach. It is a private setting that invites rest and relaxation. Other things to note This is a non smoking property which means no smoking anywhere. Please remove your shoes when in the house. Shoes may be left in the entrance way. During the winter months you will appreciate bringing your slippers or indoor shoes. We strive to be zero waste and appreciate any assistance to that end.
