The Gate House is a cozy home, available all year around, that's an easy walk from the center of Keene Valley. With four bedrooms that sleep 8, a fireplace, furnished porch, outdoor fire pit, gardens, modern appliances and laundry facilities, it's perfect for a weekend visit or an extended stay. Keene Valley is a beautiful hamlet in the High Peaks, close to popular trails. Lake Placid, host of the 2023 University Games, is a 25-minute drive. Whiteface ski area is 30 minutes away. There are four bedrooms: one on the first floor with a double bed, and three upstairs: one with a queen bed, another with a king bed, and one with two twin beds. There are two bathrooms with showers, one with a hand-held shower head and tiled seat. One bathroom is on the first floor for anyone with trouble climbing stairs. The living room is cozy and warm, with a working fireplace. The house is fully equipped with TVs (upstairs and in the living room), washer and dryer, stove with grill, coffee maker, microwave and gourmet toaster. Outside there are gardens, a fire pit with seating, and space for children to play. Inside are games, puzzles and books to enjoy after hours or on a rainy day. Guests have access to the entire house and outdoor space. We have an on-site manager available if needed. She lives next door and used to be the property owner and host, so she can answer any questions or provide assistance. The Gate House is located on a quiet street near a bridge over Johns Brook. Downtown Keene Valley is an easy, 15-minute walk. There are shops, a public library, a Congregational church, a playground and walking trails. The Noonmark Diner is a famous stop for its homemade food and pies. The Mountaineer is beloved in hiking and climbing circles for its gear, events and knowledge about outdoor activities in the area. Hikers will love being able to walk to the Garden, one of the most popular trailheads in the Adirondacks (but it has very little parking). Trails to Rooster Comb, Snow, Hedgehog, and Lower Wolf Jaw are also within walking distance. The Ausable Club, the entry point for the Adirondack Mountain Reserve, is a 10-minute drive south on Route 73. Between the Garden, the Roostercomb trailhead and hiker parking at the AMR, you'll have access to almost all of the High Peaks, with many gorgeous hikes. If you're a skier, Whiteface Mountain is a 30-minute drive. Site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics, it has the highest vertical drop east of the Rockies and 25 miles of trails. Cross-country skiers love the Jackrabbit Trail, a well-maintained 50 km trail connecting Keene, Lake Placid, Saranac Lake and Paul Smiths. The town of Lake Placid comes alive in summer and winter with Olympic athletes and outdoor enthusiasts. It's a beautiful place to have lunch or dinner, stroll along the water, or visit the Olympic museum and training centers for figure skating, speed skating, bobsled and luge, and ski jumping. In summer there are golf courses, lakefront beaches, rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking and more.
