Portaledge Cliff Camping above the Fjord

Description

Imagine yourself in a hanging tent 400m above the fjord overlooking stunning mountain landscape and the historic cradle of Norwegian hydro-power development. Each portaledge tent accommodates up to 2 people sharing a good sense of adventure. With Estangard Outdoor Experiences you enjoy incredible views over Norway's 3rd largest glacier from either your bed, or the rock terrace above with a cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate. The space You're not only booking an overnight stay here, you are booking a whole experience. It includes a professional guide with loads of stories and knowledge to share with you, a scenic hike up to your camp, a real Norwegian outdoor-dinner, a cozy bonfire if the weather permits it, an overnight stay in a portaledge tent hanging off a cliff around 400m above the fjord or a "normal" tent on the ground with the same stunning view, a nice little breakfast the next morning and the hike back down. We provide all the necessary equipment for you: climbing harness, helmet, radio to call your guide if needed, sleeping mats, pillows, warm sleeping bags, sleeping bag liners, coffee, tea and hot chocolate, some snacks, dinner and breakfast. Please note that you need to bring your own personal equipment to keep you warm and dry. Please note that you are required to wear your harness at all times when you are near the cliff or on the portaledge tent - even when you're sleeping. People might not necessarily sleep very well hanging up there above the fjord, but let's be honest, this experience isn't about sleeping. And after all, you can sleep well every other night ;) Guest access There's a wide open beautiful nature space available to you. Above the hanging tents, we have a little "dining" area where we can make fire and prepare food. Here, you can sit and chill with a hot drink and just gaze at the amazing scenery around you. We do offer "toilet facilities" which are very basic though. Other things to note Please make sure you read these notes beforehand: I. This tenting experience is always accompanied by an experienced outdoor guide who will stay close-by and make sure you're safe and as comfortable as possible. II. Please be aware that we need to limit the consumption of alcohol on the mountain due to safety reasons. We therefore ask you to not bring any hard liquor on the tour. If in doubt, your guide will have the last word and might not allow you to access the portaledge (hanging tent) or get close to the cliff side and can decide to walk you back down to the parking and therewith end the tour. We hold the responsibility for your personal safety and therefore ask for your understanding, especially since Norwegian laws are very strict on alcohol consumption. III. If you would like to bring your pet, please be aware that it will not be able to sleep in the tent with you or the guide. Your pet must be able and warm enough to spend a night outside during your chosen season - we can provide a shelter against humidity, but keep in mind that we are in Norway and it does get colder during the nights. IV. If you suffer from any allergies or medical conditions that might impact you during your stay with us, please let us know in advance. We will always carry first aid equipment but that of course has its' limitations. Please make sure you carry your personal medication with you at all times. V. Since we offer dinner and breakfast, please let us know beforehand if you have any food intolerance and allergies as well as dietary requirements if applicable. VI. Please make sure you bring appropriate, warm clothing according to the weather forecast and season (check out our packing list in the "Info for guests" section). VII. You access your tent for the night via a rope ladder. You are secured and assisted by a professional guide at all times. Nevertheless, this activity requires a good level of fitness, and you should not be afraid of heights. A healthy respect for heights is fine and if you decide in the end that you would rather spend your night more grounded, we have normal tents available for you. VIII. For safety reasons there is a weight limit of 100kg per person (total 200kg) for sleeping in the portaledges (hanging tents). If you exceed this limit but would still like to book this tour, we can provide you with an alternative on the ground - with the same stunning views. IX. Please note that the toilet solution is very simple up here, we are using a small camping toilet. We therefore recommend using the bathroom at our meeting point before the tour starts.
