Other things to note This flat is located on the ground level of the historic Firehouse One building in the absolute center of Downtown Traverse City. There may not be a location that is more convenient for walking around downtown and exploring the shops, restaurants, coffee shops, galleries, craft distilleries or microbreweries, or going to the public beach and marina nearby. You have street level access to downtown TC and the many activities, attractions, and events that Traverse City has to offer year round. The building is located in an urban setting where there is a lot of activity nearby, especially in the summer months, during festivals and events, or on weekends and holidays. If you are very sensitive to sound or privacy or are looking for a super quiet retreat, this space may not be the best option for you. That doesn't mean that this is a generally noisy space. The overwhelming majority of our guests absolutely love the space and the location, and they don't usually have any issues with noise. For those who are more sensitive to sounds , we do provide white noise machines fans in every unit and if that isn’t enough we can supply ear plugs upon request. The building is well insulated. The exterior brick walls are over a foot thick and the windows are double paned. During our renovation, we went through great lengths to make it a quieter space. We installed double ceilings and double walls between each and every unit, utilizing extra layers of drywall and sound channel packed full of lots of rock wool for beefed up sound insulation. This greatly reduces the potential for noise between units. Even still, the building is a 130 years old brick building, and some sound still carries between floors or walls. If someone is obnoxiously loud in the unit above you, you will probably hear it. For this reason, we do ask that all of our guests are extra respectful of each other's need for quiet time in the building after 10pm. We also ask that if other guests don't respect your need for peace and quiet, that you simply let us know while it is happening. If you give us a chance to handle it, we promise you we will take care of it for you and we will do it swiftly. If you wait until after checkout to mention any issue, we won't have the opportunity to resolve a it while it is well within our power to do so. You have a right to peace and quiet. Traverse City has a noise ordinance downtown after 10pm that they have to enforce. If any noise from outside the unit keeps you up, please don’t hesitate to contact them to uphold the noise ordinance. Also please let us know as well so we assist. The bedroom in this unit is located along an exterior brick wall that is in a quieter part of the building. The sofa bed is in the main living space along the alley has more potential for street noise from pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the alley, including from delivery trucks and trash pickup. As a result, the sleeper sofa isn't as good for the lighter sleepers out there. There are people walking around downtown so outside the building, this is not a private location. You can find plenty of privacy inside the unit. We have installed top down bottom up blackout blinds in every unit. These things are awesome if you know how to use them properly. To realize their full benefit, you have to pull them down from the top. When you do this, you maintain a level of privacy on the ground level while also letting in lots of natural light from above. If you only use the blinds from the bottom up, you won’t have much privacy. This flat is ideal for people who want a comfortable and well appointed rental with lots of charm and character in a fantastic location to walk downtown and have easy access to the area. If you want a scenic view of the outdoors you may just have to walk a short distance to get it at the bay or the river or one of the many beautiful parks nearby. If you love natural light, you can still get that without giving up street level privacy by just pulling the blinds down from the top. Please don’t expect a scenic outdoor view from inside the flat. The historic and architectural features of the building do provide lots of visual interest inside this space.
