Together-time is the focus here – the ground floor is one gorgeous open-plan space with a TV/DVD, wood burner, kitchen area and comfortable seating. Reached by an enclosed spiral staircase, on the upper floor there’s a shower room – with some limited headroom – and a blissful bedroom which can be made up with either a super-king-size bed or two singles. Unexpectedly large, the well-tended garden has seasonal planting and outdoor seating, and makes a lovely spot for lazy days and sundowners. Less than 350 metres away, Mousehole’s pretty-as-a-picture harbour has a rich history while the maze of narrow streets leading to it are filled with small shops, galleries, cafes and local-granite-built cottages. Two substancial breakwaters protect the village from the force of the sea, and the sheltered harbour beach is popular for swimmers. Take things slowly exploring the village, or head 2 miles along the coast road to Newlyn, the South West’s largest fishing port, where you can watch trawlers land their latest catch, or learn about the School of Art which was established here in the late 19th century. A mile further on, Penzance has a rich nautical heritage and is home to the famous Jubilee Pool, the UK’s largest art deco saltwater lido.
