In winter months, the driveway will be plowed but shoveling will be the responsibility of the guest. AWD/4WD is necessary in Maine for the majority of the winter, especially to get up the driveway of the house. Guest access Whole house Other things to note Accessibility: Unfortunately the house isn't too handicap accessible as there are at least a few steps up or down to every entrance to the house. There are 7 (wooden deck) steps to get up to the main entrance of the house where the main floor is. You can also access the main floor from the back of the house which had 5 steps up to the back deck which gets you into the kitchen. In order to access the walkout basement, there are two stone steps to get to the patio/fire pit area in the front of the house. Maine Wildlife & Insects: The woods of Maine have all sorts of critters and crawlers but if you keep the doors closed, you shouldn't have an issue inside. The backyard was sprayed at the beginning of the season with a pet friendly, organic pesticide in an effort to limit mosquitos and ticks. There are still mosquitos since the lake is at the end of the street and if it has been raining, mosquito activity is usually higher. I also strongly suggest you check yourself and others (including dogs) for ticks prior to entering the house, especially if you have been hiking at all during your stay.
