Magical Historic Barn Conversion
Magical Historic Barn Conversion
Description
This barn is not for everyone; it is no ordinary holiday cottage, but a retreat for the senses. A unique chance to step back in time, a place where time stands still. The antidote to the fast-pace of life, up here you will feel as though you’re in another world. This 17th century barn is a love note to its 1960s conversion, with all its quirky features still intact. There are no screens, the lighting is low and warm, you will not hear a sound apart from the birdsong. For some, it is heaven. The space The barn is open plan and spacious, inviting you to relax and unwind into its peaceful tranquillity, it invites you to slow down and enjoy its simplicity. The space is nostalgic and has been designed as the perfect respite for the nervous system, with zero interference from blue light or noise from the outside world. Breathe in the freshest of air and watch the clear night sky, you will feel completely re-energised. Ideal for a romantic getaway or creative retreat. A rare gem for being both completely secluded, and within walking distance of village amenities, the barn is a short and enjoyable stroll across the fields to the Derbyshire’s award-winning ‘best country pub’ with its south-facing terrace and home-cooked food. Enjoy meeting the locals with live bands every Saturday night. Once home to the animals, the barn itself has thick stone walls that shield from the elements. It is full of rustic charm and character, you will feel as though you are in a French farmhouse or a stylish '60s chalet. You will most likely be greeted by Flossie, our resident cat host. Outside an ancient ash tree stands guard over the property, home to the blackbirds and wood pigeons that coo at dawn and dusk. The garden is full of wild herbs and fruits that guests are welcome to. The garden is rewilding to cultivate greater diversity of species and attract bees. Beyond the large garden, you will be surrounded by rolling Derbyshire hill tops, adorned with our animal neighbours. On the lower floor, you have access to your own secluded sun-drenched terrace with BBQ and firepit for long summer evenings. When it gets chilly, you may want to retreat inside to the wood burning stove and play some records. Nearby you can enjoy the most amazing spring-fed natural swimming pool/lido as well as countless spots for river swims, breathtaking hikes, ancient stone circles, as well as charming book stores, independent cafes, farmers markets and perusing quaint antiques. Within a short drive you can also enjoy adventure tours, vineyards, horse riding and nature walks as well as some of Derbyshire’s classic tourist attractions such as the iconic Chatsworth House and historic sites, Peak Cavern and Buxton spa town. The barn has kept all of its historical integrity, including the original 60s kitchen and bathroom. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you would need as your ‘home from home’, complete with utensils and cookware, including dishwasher, fridge/freezer and a gas cooker with electric oven, though we are very far from mod cons. Note that the property is listed as bath only. We embrace essential oils and the art of slow living, here. Every care has been taken to ensure that this property is respectful to the natural world that surrounds it. That includes non-toxic products that are used for cleaning, the flowers and fuel that are local and sustainably sourced, down to the duvet that is made from recycled feathers. We recycle absolutely everything and value visitors who care as much about the environment as we do. Guest access You will have your own private entrance and on-drive parking outside, with exclusive access to the barn, garden and outdoor seating (inc BBQ) area during your stay. Other things to note You are visiting an old property in a rural setting, with beautiful original oak beams and flagstone floors, so slippers are recommended (some provided). As much as we are diligent cleaners, there are prodigious and gravity-defying guest spiders in the rafters, so the appearance of cobwebs is inevitable. If you've read this far and it all sounds good then the place will no doubt be your dream visit.
