Star Catcher Cottage: A Borrego Mid-Century Modern
Star Catcher Cottage: A Borrego Mid-Century Modern
Description
A lovingly renovated Mid-Century Modern cottage in Borrego Springs, located in a quiet neighborhood just blocks from both Anza-Borrego State Park and the charming town with its shops, restaurants, and galleries. The home sits on a quiet half-acre surrounded by a privacy fence. Wake to brilliant desert sunrises, then relax in the Caldera spa under Borrego’s dark night skies bursting with stars. This beautiful retreat is the perfect base for hiking, relaxing and enjoying the magnificent desert. The space I fell in love with this solid redwood Mid-Century Modern cottage the moment I saw it—even in its most run-down state. Maybe it was the massive interior beams, or the way the desert light pours through the windows. Maybe it was the old desert plants, the stones and crystals scattered across the land, or the spiral that mysteriously appears in the earth when it rains. Or maybe it was the way the light shifts across the surrounding mountains—especially on Font’s Point, where the colors change endlessly. I could sit and watch it all day. And at night… the stars and planets are simply breathtaking. Borrego Springs is one of the rare Dark Sky Communities, and the night sky here is nothing short of awe-inspiring. The renovation was long and challenging—but every step was a labor of love. The home is now 1,250 square feet, light-filled and open, with a flowing floor plan designed for comfort and inspiration. There’s a private primary bedroom with a walk-in closet and beautifully remodeled en-suite bath, a separate dining room, and a dedicated laundry room with an additional half bath. Once the renovation was complete, we filled the home with thoughtful details: original art, antiques, high-end bedding, all-new appliances, a large smart TV, a record player with a vintage vinyl collection, bookcases lined with classic books, and many other touches meant to make the space feel both elevated and deeply welcoming. Outside, the experience continues. Enjoy a new Caldara spa, a triple-burner Weber grill, and two outdoor fire pits. The house and a quarter-acre yard are enclosed by a new cedar fence, while another quarter-acre of open desert land stretches beyond—perfect for gathering around the larger fire pit or simply sitting in the vast quiet of the desert. The home is just three short blocks from town, with its charming shops, restaurants, and art galleries—and equally close to the wild beauty of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park, the largest state park in California. There is something about this place that invites reflection, creativity, and a deep sense of peace. It has inspired us in countless ways, and we hope it does the same for you—and that you’ll come to love it as much as we do. • World-class stargazing Located in a rare Dark Sky Community, the night sky here is extraordinary — planets, constellations, and the Milky Way on clear nights. • Mid-Century Modern character Solid redwood construction, dramatic beams, beautiful desert light, and a thoughtfully renovated open floor plan create a space that feels both stylish and soulful. • A true spa-like escape Guests love soaking in the Caldara spa, gathering around the fire pits, and unwinding under the desert sky after a day of exploring. • Inspired, creative atmosphere Vintage vinyl, classic books, original art, and quiet desert surroundings make this a favorite for writers, artists, and anyone craving reflection and calm. • Indoor-outdoor desert living A fenced private yard, open desert space beyond, grill, and fire pits offer room to relax, stargaze, or simply sit with the vastness. • Walkable and wild Just three short blocks to Borrego Springs’ shops, restaurants, and galleries — and equally close to the raw beauty of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. • A place that feels loved Guests often mention how personal, warm, and cared-for the home feels — not just a rental, but a retreat. *** Monthly & Extended Stays The home is well-suited for longer stays and offers a fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, reliable Wi-Fi, and a peaceful setting perfect for settling in. Monthly discounts are automatically applied. Guest access You have the entire house and 1/2 acre yard all to yourself! the entire space is accessible and easy to get around. Other things to note Important. The house was built to be unconventional. Part of that is the fact that the builders intentionally made the rooms a few inches higher or lower than the main open space. There are small wooden ramps on each one for safety to avoid a tripping hazard. But I would like to mention that fact here. Please be aware of this.
