Description

Situated on a 1792 Vermont farmstead, the original Carriage Barn is a thoughtfully renovated 2-bedroom cottage that blends historic charm with colorful, comfortable design. Located just 10 minutes from Brattleboro and all that Southern Vermont has to offer, it’s a perfect home base for a cozy New England escape. The space Weatherhead Hollow is a 1792 Vermont farmstead surrounded by rolling fields, ancient apple trees, and mountain views. The Carriage Barn is a two-story historic building, fully renovated to include modern comforts while preserving rare and original details like exposed beams, dormer windows, and knotty pine floors. This colorful, cozy cottage features two bedrooms and a shared open-concept kitchen/living area upstairs – ideal for small groups or families looking for a peaceful retreat. Downstairs: You’ll enter into the mudroom with space to hang coats, kick off shoes, and relax on a handmade bench. The foyer includes a washer/dryer, original artwork, and a fire-escape style staircase leading upstairs. Upstairs: The sunny open-concept living space includes a fully equipped (but petite!) kitchen — perfect for two people cooking at a time. The dining and lounge area comfortably seats four, and the sofa folds out into a twin bed. The bathroom features a clawfoot tub/shower tucked into a dormer window. Bedrooms: – Queen Bedroom: Soft plush Saatva mattress, writing desk, rocking chair, and two closets. – Guest Room: Two full-size antique beds with luxury firm mattresses, a large dresser, and an original barn board wall (featuring a 1932 corn tally from the old farm!). Pet-Friendly Perks: We love dogs! You’ll find food/water bowls, towels for muddy paws, and a few toys. Well-behaved pups can be left alone as long as they’re comfortable in new environments. Please include your dog in your reservation and let us know in advance – we’re happy to share local dog-walking tips (there’s a great route right across the road!). Other Things to Note: – Vizio V-Series 43" 4K Smart TV – Strong WiFi throughout – Filtered well water – Verizon cell service is limited (1–2 bars) – Please note: The Carriage Barn does not have a fenced yard but includes a private side yard with a bistro table and space to relax under two maple trees We take cleaning seriously – we fully air out the Carriage Barn between bookings and follow Airbnb’s 5-step enhanced cleaning protocol. Guest access Guests have exclusive use of the Carriage Barn, including the side yard with a bistro table for four under two towering maple trees. The side yard is reserved just for Carriage Barn guests and offers a lovely spot for relaxing outdoors. Please note the fenced in backyard and farmhouse front porch are not included in the Carriage Barn reservations. The farmstead sits on four acres and also includes a restored Farmhouse, Blacksmith Shop, and historic Bank Barn – a rare Vermont design built into the hillside. These buildings are separate accommodations and are not included with Carriage Barn reservations. The loop driveway and parking area are shared with the nearby Farmhouse. This is a dog-friendly farmstead, and guests may occasionally see other dogs on leash in the shared parking area. If you or your dog are not comfortable around other dogs, the Carriage Barn may not be the best fit for your stay. The surrounding fields and trace roads are open for strolling, snowshoeing, running, or biking along the winding country road. Other things to note The Carriage Barn is designed for peaceful residential stays and is not set up for events or large gatherings. The maximum number of people permitted on the property at any time is 4, and the home may not be used for parties, events, or large gatherings. The property may not be used for wedding party preparations, photography sessions, or as a staging location for weddings, events, or group transportation logistics (including shuttle parking, guest staging, or vendor coordination). Standard ride pickups and drop-offs for registered guests are welcome. The Carriage Barn is part of the historic Weatherhead Hollow farmstead, which includes several restored outbuildings located across the grounds. These buildings are separate from Carriage Barn reservations and do not share the private outdoor bistro table area. The property is supplied by filtered country well water that is safe to drink. As is common in rural Vermont, guests may occasionally notice a mild natural mineral scent at certain times of year due to seasonal groundwater fluctuations. Weatherhead Hollow also supports a small, invitation-based artist residency program that helps sustain Vermont’s creative economy. Throughout the Carriage Barn, you’ll find original artwork and handmade pieces created by working artists – many developed through our residency program and all sourced directly from artists rather than mass-market décor – helping keep the property authentic and deeply connected to the creative community.
