Surrounded by the Drakensberg mountains, our Rondavel is a 2-bedroom self-catering rustic cottage. Situated in the Monks Cowl area of the central Drakensberg. This cottage is off grid, perfect for hikers, trail runners and nature lovers alike, situated in a tranquil area. We have limited solar electricity, hot water and water straight from a nearby stream. We live simply and respect nature. The property is one of the highest private properties in this part of the mountains. The space This is a true Drakensberg experience. The Rondo is a unique retreat for persons looking for a tranquil, cosy, peaceful home, perfect for bird watchers and nature lovers. Ideally situated for day hikers and trail runners. This Drakensberg retreat is located inside the gated area of KZN Wildlife, the Okhahlamba World heritage Site, with access to the high peaks in the Central Drakensberg, (be aware of gate closing times). We wish to share this wonderful place, its views and natural beauty. Experience the warm embrace of an earthen dwelling for a getaway in nature. Leaving the worries of the modern world behind, you will enjoy an off the grid experience. Relax on the veranda and watch the milky way unfold with beautiful starlit skies. Enjoy a sundowner out on the deck with an open fire to relax by. Listen to the Chorister Robin with its variety of songs from early mornings through the day. At night you often hear the Jackal calling. We encourage you to explore the beauty that surrounds us here in the beautiful central Berg. Because this is a nature experience, please bear in mind you may be exposed to the elements such as wind, rain and sunshine outdoors. The main open-plan loft bedroom has a king-sized bed. We have installed a wall plug for a hairdryer in the main bedroom. The north facing loft bedroom has two single beds. Access to this room through the main bedroom. There is a bathroom with a shower, hand wash basin and toilet. The central lounge and kitchen are open plan with a cosy pot-belly stove to keep the Rondo cosy on cold winter days. There is a large veranda to enjoy the spectacular starry night skies, while braaing on the fire pit, or relaxing on the deck. Guest access Guests have access to a second Bedroom with 2 single beds. Access is through is through the main Bedroom. The main Bedroom has a King sized bed. A wall plug for a hairdryer and a plug for charging cell phones. There is a Bathroom and Living Room/ Kitchen area in the Rondo. Covered deck and open deck with a fire pit. Other things to note Warning. There are Vervet Monkeys and Baboons in the area. Whilst they do not normally pose a physical threat, these animals will enter the Rondo at will and take food lying around and defecate inside The Rondo. Unfortunately, this means that unattended windows and doors can only be slightly ajar. Do not confront these animals as they are unpredictable when cornered. Please also do not feed these animals as they become a nuisance and will have to be put down. Please note that the Rondo is situated inside the Monks Cowl Ezemvelo Wildlife reserve. The access gate into the reserve, is locked between 6:00pm and 6:00am.
