House on the Hill – Calm Retreat, Winchester

House on the Hill is a calm, stylish and light-filled home tucked down a private lane above the Itchen Valley. Set on the edge of a small farm, it’s peaceful and rural – but only five minutes from Winchester. Thoughtfully modernised for easy family living, there’s space to spread out inside and out, with a large garden, paddock, and far-reaching countryside views. Ideal for exploring Hampshire, the South Downs, and the New Forest. The space House on the Hill is a calm, light-filled family home designed for easy living. Set down a private lane on top of a hill, it opens out onto wide Hampshire skies and countryside views and yet you’re just five minutes from Winchester. The house sleeps up to 10: eight in fixed beds, plus two additional pull-out singles stored beneath the children’s beds. Please let us know in advance if you’ll be using them, so we can provide linen. Ground Floor A large open-plan kitchen-dining area with panoramic views through sliding crittal-style doors Recently converted electric AGA with ECO mode and digital temperature control Dining table for 10, with an additional table available for larger groups Dishwasher, double fridge, coffee machine and all the usual kitchen kit Relaxed sofa corner with smart TV There’s also a second, more formal sitting room with a working wood-burning fireplace and comfy sofas. Children can spread out in the playroom, complete with toys for ages 2–12 and a second flat-screen TV. A glass link corridor leads to a utility and boot room with a butler sink and washing machine. A guest WC is located just off the main hallway. First Floor Bedroom 1: King bed with ensuite roll-top bath, walk-in waterfall shower, and double sinks Bedroom 2: King bed with ensuite bath Bedroom 3: King bed with ensuite WC and walk-in shower (accessed via internal glass corridor with its own connecting door) Bedroom 4: Single bed with additional pull-out Bedroom 5: Single bed with additional pull-out Outdoors The house opens onto a large private garden, ideal for children and relaxed outdoor living. There’s a trampoline, climbing frame, monkey bars, slide and a playhouse – all overlooking open fields. You’ll also meet our friendly chickens (feel free to collect fresh eggs in the morning) and, depending on the season, are welcome to pick vegetables from the garden. That includes the large back garden, perfect for lounging, playing, or evening drinks, with uninterrupted countryside views. Other things to note This is our much-loved family home, and we hope you’ll feel right at home too. We’ve cleared plenty of cupboard and wardrobe space for your stay, though some of our (streamlined) belongings will remain in the house. The upside? The home is exceptionally well-equipped, from kitchen essentials to a playroom stocked with books and toys for little ones.
