29th April, 1770. Capt. James Cook, in fact, first made land fall (not in the commonly mistaken Botany Bay of NSW), but directly south of this cottage, at Sorrento's Diamond Bay. From here, only guided by his compass and a longing for native fish and chips, he marched North 400 meters, through dense Tea Tree. At this very spot, having consulted with his union rep and surveyor, Cook dropped his rifle into the sandy soil & cried "Build me a Beach house, for I have definite doubts about Hawaii!"
