Chi Lowen (happy house in Cornish) is situated amongst huge pine trees, narrow streets and cottages with fairy-lit porches. This charming historical community will melt your heart. The fragrance of pine, dancing fireflies, chirping cicadas, and the lilting song of the Carolina wren will relax and enchant you and make you want to stay forever. While summers burst with activity (outlined below), the rest of the year is ideally quiet and peaceful. Nearby Hershey and Lancaster offer much as well. The space Unlike many cottages in Mt. Gretna, this cottage is fully insulated so can be enjoyed year-round. The main heat source is a propane gas stove in the living room. The bathroom and side room (that converts into a second small bedroom for one) have electric baseboard heaters. The upstairs bedroom stays quite warm from the propane stove but there is a mini split heater/air conditioner upstairs that will cool the cottage in summer. On the first floor of the cottage is the living room, kitchen, bathroom, and small side room with a chair that opens into a single bed. The kitchen is fully equipped to include a coffeemaker. Paper products, toiletries, sheets, and towels are also provided. Upstairs is the bedroom with a comfortable queen bed and a small full bookcase. Extra pillows and extra comforters are also there if you need them. In the cabinet facing the sofa is a Roku TV with access to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, etc. There is also a DVD player in the cabinet and an array of DVD movies. On a shelf in the living room are several games and a jigsaw puzzle. Most cottages in Mount Gretna are very old and not built to present day code. The steps to the upstairs are narrow and steep. There is a grab bar at the top for support. Please navigate these stairs with caution! The outdoor space includes a parking place for one vehicle, a lovely front porch with a porch swing, and a firepit patio with chairs. Instructions for turning on the propane firepit will be inside the cottage. Guest access The entire cottage is yours to enjoy. You will enter via the front porch using a code on the keypad deadbolt. Light switch is just inside to the right of the door. For your safety, leave the labeled security camera switch (that covers the parking area) on. Other things to note All special info pertinent to your stay will be in a guest book in the cottage. I am also always available via cell phone for any questions.
