Description
The Basgo Homestay is located at a distance of 40 kms from Leh right on Leh-Srinagar Highway and it takes about an hour to reach homestay from Leh Airport. Basgo Village was earlier known as Bago village which literally means 'cow's head'. Villagers believe to have a cow's head imprinted on a rock which is well kept surrounded by small stupas at the entrance of Basgo Village. Basgo plays an important role in well preserving the age-old architecture and heritage of Ladakh and the kings. The space Basgo Homestay is a contemporary styled house made of stones. Basgo Palace is clearly visible from lawn and common area of the homestay. Enjoy panoramic view of Gompa, centuries-old Stupas, landscapes and a small garden from your homestay. There is a small garden all prepared by host which has more than 20 types of flowers and plants. Host serves farm to table fresh organic food all plucked from garden and prepared naturally. Guest access The guests can use a single bedroom setup within the house. The host provides warm blanket and amenities curated to suit a traveler's comfort. The entire linen has been handcrafted as per international hospitality standards and comforts. Your breakfast and dinner are included in the cost mentioned on Airbnb, Do note the Ladakhi houses have an Indian style shared washroom for travelers. Heating is only available in winters (Oct- March) through a local Bukhari (Fireplace) which runs only for few hours. The hosts usually cook local Indian dishes like Daal, Chapati and Vegetables for food. For any special request or local cuisine do ask the host in advanced. Do note, there is NO access to Wi-Fi in the homestay. The internet is available through Airtel and Jio mobile network only. Other things to note Basgo village is a prominent example of centuries old heritage of Ladakh in the form of Stupas and Museums. It was once an important cultural and political center and is frequently mentioned in the Ladakhi Chronicles. Basgo Palace is another attraction one can visit. Palace was built in 15th century. There is also a monastery situated on top of the hill towering over the ruins of the ancient town. It is famous for its Buddha statue and murals. Enhance your stay with unique experiences such as a guided tour of a traditional old house, a trek or picnic visit to the serene Ney village, or a trip to see the magnificent open Buddha statue. These activities can be arranged upon request with the host for an additional charge. Interesting fact - The complex comprises of three temples named Chamchung, Chamba Lakhang and Serzang. Chamchung was earlier a mosque and later converted to a temple when queen converted into Buddhism.
