Description
Welcome to the historic Dutton House, a 1906 home listed on Spokane's Register of Historic Places. The Dutton House features large rooms and wood floors throughout. Located near the Spokane River and the trailhead to the Centennial Trail in Spokane's West Central Neighborhood. Upstairs are two queen and one full-sized bedrooms with memory foam mattresses and a convenient laundry room. Only minutes from Kendel Yards and downtown Spokane. A friendly band of chickens lives in a coop on site. The space Licensed with the City of Spokane (Permit No: Z21-015STRN). Nicely landscaped with backyard gardens, raised bed gardens, pergola with seating (in warm months), Weber gas BBQ, and friendly chickens in a coop (we take care of these -- don't worry). In the summer, pick berries from the bushes, gather grapes, or pick apples from the tree. Enjoy a quiet evening on the inviting front porch with swing. The Dutton House demonstrates American Foursquare form with Colonial Revival and Craftsman influences. Aptly named, American Foursquares feature a room in each corner, on the first and second floor creating a square, box-shaped footprint. The Dutton house is an unusual interpretation of the style, which compares favorably with other homes in the Sherwood Addition, a popular streetcar suburb in Spokane’s West Central. The most prominent and unique features of the Dutton House are the half-round openings at the porch where other houses might display simple drain openings for an enclosed half porch, and the graceful oval window in the center of the upper facade. The Dutton house typifies one of the popular styles in the growing suburbs, often promoted in pattern books, although it was not as common in West Central. As such, it is a remaining embodiment of a phenomenon that was occurring throughout the city and across the nation at the turn of the century. Guest access Guests can access the home using a coded lockbox to obtain a key that opens both the back and front doors or they can arrange to meet with hosts. Additional key available by request. Other things to note No smoking on the property. This is a historic home and does not have air conditioning on the main floor. We have fans throughout the home to make our warm summer days more comfortable.
