Description

Private loft apt on main street close to it all! You’ll love it because of the privacy & location, being right in the heart of vibrant Madrid. Just steps away from the historic Mineshaft Tavern, Java Junction, & the many galleries and artist studios in town. The apt is cozy, warm, sunny and well-appointed with artistic touches. New bedding, comfy pillows, and a well-stocked kitchen make your stay just like home. Host is nearby for any needs. The space This loft apt is a 550 sq ft beautiful, sunny and simple space located via private entrance. While it has a separate entrance, the apt is directly above my art gallery and studio space, which means the property at large is open to the public during business hours - but is quiet at night. Inside the main living area is a large L-sofa, sitting chair, coffee tables, dining set, ROKU tv, high-speed wifi, and a writing nook. Upstairs in the sleeping loft you will find a very comfortable/soft queen bed, making it a perfect space for solo travelers or couples. NOTE: The sleeping loft is only accessible via a secured and slanted loft ladder; please see pictures to assess whether this type of arrangement works for you. A tall person can definitely fit, as long as they don’t mind tucking in for the climb and being mindful of the low loft ceiling while in the sleeping space. The kitchen is fully stocked for simple cooking and enjoying take-out meals from our local eateries. There is a small frig, a Cuisinart tabletop convection oven/air fryer, as well as a two-burner stove plate. A Keurig machine is ready to brew coffee or tea each morning (provided by host, please let me know if there’s something special you prefer). Outside there is a private outdoor seating area, perfect for overlooking the beautiful buildings and people of Madrid as they move about. There is also a maintained seasonal garden space below the stairs. Parking is available for one car ONLY. Please note: ** If you have a large vehicle of any kind, including truck, you will have to park off-property using street parking in town, as the space will not allow oversized vehicles due to safety egress. ** Other Things to Note: Madrid water is known for its quirky, sulfur smell. While it is verified safe to drink, most locals just drink bottled water and use the Madrid water for showering, cooking and cleaning. Even boiling for coffee, tea, or pasta water is fine. There is drinking water provided for guests in the kitchen. PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS LITTLE TO NO CELL SERVICE IN THE TOWN OF MADRID. PLEASE BE SURE TO RECORD ALL TRAVEL DIRECTIONS AND CHECK IN INFO BEFORE YOU TRAVEL. (Wifi is available for guests once you check into the house). Guest access Neighborhood overview: Madrid is one of the oldest coal mining towns in the southwest. Now it is a funky little village of artists, musicians, old hippies, gallery owners and folks cultivating a life of sustainable living off-grid. It’s a small community, with rich history, and all the quirks of small-town life. During certain months, tourism becomes a main source of traffic and revenue for the town, and the vibe can get lively. Weekend festivals, seasonal parades, gallery openings, creative theater productions, weekly music schedules, and a couple good restaurants create a rich social environment in an otherwise quiet town. Great hiking right here in town, or just a few miles away in Cerrillos Hills State Park. Madrid is definitely funky--- wobbly roads, odd displays of art and creativity, dogs wandering around loosely all over town... it’s a unique and charming place. Captures the soul of many, especially those with a free spirit and love for the spontaneous, expressive energy. Getting Around: Located right in the center of town, the loft apt is within walking distance to everything in Madrid. You can walk the entire village, from one end to the other exploring the shops, galleries, and local life. If you want to explore outside of Madrid, a car is best. Santa Fe is an easy 25-30 min drive north, and Albuquerque is 45-60 minutes south, both via Hwy 14, the "Turquoise Trail" scenic route between the two cities. There is a new bus service that started last year, offering transport to/from Santa Fe on a daily basis, but the schedule is light and the drop-off locations aren't ideal for tourists. But, it does exist. There is an airport shuttle from ABQ airport that drops off in Santa Fe, at the same location where this local busline picks up - so in theory, you could arrive here without a car. So long as you are patient with the bus schedule and coordinate the shuttle with it. Other things to note Interaction with Guests: I live right nearby, am accessible for any needs, 24/7. I own an art gallery and studio located on the first floor of the building, so can often be found working there during business hours. Contactless check-in is provided using a key code given on day of check-in. House Rules: Quiet Hours from 10pm- 7am. Check in 3pm. Checkout is 10am. Unfortunately no late checkouts can be accommodated due to housekeeping schedule. No flushing toilet paper- must be placed in secure bin next to toilet. *This honors our very sensitive septic system (town-wide)* No shoes in the house- please remove by door and place on shelf provided No smoking indoors, cigarettes or anything else. No smoking outdoors near open windows or doors of the apt or gallery below No parties or loud noise- We have neighbors who we chose to respect No food or drink on the white sofa Santa Fe County Registration No: STRO-40018 / Permit #23-6047
