Sakti Eco Homestay

Sakti Homestay is located at a distance of 50 kms from Leh Airport. It takes 2 hours to reach homestay from Leh. Sakti is a pitstop for travelers travelling to WariLa or ChangLa. This is the last village before you ascend Warila on your way to Nubra. Warila is widely known for its wildlife sighting and Sakti is the last village where one can set base for longstays. The space Sakti Homestay is located right in the heart of Sakti Village. Surrounded by small streams and tall-green Poplar trees, one will wake up to the sound of chirping birds, flowing canals and villagers working in their fields. Takthok Monastery literally meaning ‘rock roof’ is right in the sight from homestay. The name represents the history of big walls and roof made of rock, in mid-16th century. Homestay is newly constructed, and host is a retired army honorary captain living with his wife and a cat. After having served over 30 years in Army, the couple started hosting guests as a passion where travelers can also involve themselves in local family’s simple life in mountains. Guest access The guests can use a single bedroom setup within the house. The host provides warm blanket and amenities curated to suit a traveler's comfort. The entire linen has been handcrafted as per international hospitality standards and comforts. Your breakfast and dinner are included in the cost mentioned on Airbnb, Heating is only available in winters (Oct- March) through a local Bukhari (Fireplace) which runs only for few hours. The hosts usually cook local Indian dishes like Dal, Chapati and Vegetables for food. For any special request or local cuisine do ask the host in advanced. Do note, there is NO access to Wi-Fi in the homestay. The internet is available through Airtel and Jio mobile network only. Other things to note Your stay also includes experiences like - 1. Cooking-traditional dishes 2. Chang tasting, local brewed barley and rice beer/wine 3. Gardening (June-September only)-Sowing, Weeding, vegetable drying, and so on. 4. Village tour-walk along the Indus 5. Story telling: Buddhism, Ladakhi culture, People, Personal stories, wildlife, nomadic lifestyle and so on. 6. Handloom- the process of making handicrafts like socks, caps, carpets from using Yak and Sheep Wool 7. Pickle making (August-September)
