A natural stoned paved terrace and patio has sunbeds for the guests to use. Landscaped gardens surround the properties and at night, the pathways and the pool are lit. Sea and hill views. Sea views stretch beyond the silver green leafed olive groves and towering hills stand proudly behind these private properties. This is an idyllic situation for families with children or a group of friends who would desire some privacy and seclusion and yet not feel totally isolated. These professionally designed properties replicate the characteristics of the local churches; each one incorporates some traditional features. Earthy colours have been painted outside whilst pale shades have been used inside. Round, skylight windows allow circles of natural light to fall on softly lit shuttered rooms. Large lamps create soft shadows, whilst watercolour paintings, from a Lefkadian artist, hang unobtrusively on the walls. Life in the hills adds a different dimension to a holiday. If you are not fancying a swim in the pool then take a walk up one of the agricultural tracks that skirt the hillsides and enjoy the fresh air and views. A camera and a pair of binoculars are a must. It is impossible to resist the urge to examine the wildlife in detail. Agios Nikitas village is not too far to walk on a cool day. There are tavernas, mini-markets, a few small shops, and a lovely safe beach for children to swim from. You may be lucky enough to buy your own fresh fish from the fisherman for your B.B.Q. Dining outside in the evening becomes an indulgence and a luxury to be relished with friends. Although the pretty village of Agios Nikitas is only a 20-25 minute walk downhill; it feels a longer and much hotter journey back. The village and beach is less than 10 minutes by car. Of course, we would like to encourage you to use the car for exploring the wonders of this beautiful island! This villa is the perfect bolthole for leaving the office pressures behind and catching up on some of those novels one never finds time to read. It is usually quiet enough to hear the surrounding wildlife, especially around dawn and dusk. As the gentle evening breeze carries the bird song across the valley, you can often hear the calling of foxes on the hillside. At nights, bats dart down to drink water from the swimming pool. Badgers and squirrels have made the occasional appearance and a sighting of a Pine Marten is rare but possible. There is nothing more hypnotic than letting your senses succumb to the wonders of nature. Once the embers of your B.B.Q. have ceased to glow, lie back on a sunbed and stare at the twinkling night sky displaying the Milky Way and an array of stars, totally uninterrupted by streetlight pollution. Every constellation and satellite can be observed.
