Set in the mountains of Far West Texas, the Cattlemen’s Headquarters at Newberry Ranch in Alpine offers a true West Texas escape. Surrounded by the Davis and Glass Mountains, the ranch overlooks the vast Chihuahuan Desert, Ranger Mesas, and the iconic Twin Sisters. Guests are invited to slow down, enjoy wide-open skies, experience authentic ranch life, and reconnect with nature, solitude, and adventure in one of the most scenic landscapes in Texas. The space Unwind in the historic Cattlemen’s Headquarters, a nearly 100-year-old ranch home spanning 4,500 square feet and rich with West Texas character. The Headquarters, along with the private South Casita, offers sweeping views of the Ranger Mesas and Del Norte Mountains, creating a breathtaking backdrop throughout your stay. Begin your mornings with sunrise on the veranda and end the day watching the desert sky glow at sunset. As night falls, take in some of the darkest skies in the United States, with remarkable views of the Milky Way stretching across the horizon. Guests may choose from eight thoughtfully appointed bedrooms within the Cattlemen’s Headquarters or enjoy the quiet privacy of the one-bedroom South Casita. Each space is designed to showcase the surrounding landscape, with expansive views of majestic mesas, green pastures, and the striking Del Norte Mountains. The property includes 8 bedrooms, 5 full bathrooms, 2 wood burning fireplaces, 3 full kitchens, 1 crib/toddlers bed, 1 laundry room, 1 pool table room with piano, 3 dining tables, 1 veranda with 4th outdoor dining table, and 1 central courtyard with BBQ wood/charcoal grill and traditional Mexican disco. ***Please Note: Swimming Stock Tank (AKA Pool) is by appointment only as it is not on site*** It is located in a separate, more remote area of the ranch, offering a private setting; however, a guide is required to escort guests to and from the location. *SUVs or high belly cars are recommended* Other things to note During your stay at The Cattleman’s Headquarters, we offer a variety of on-site activities to make your experience at Newberry Ranch truly unforgettable! Guests can enjoy four-wheeler excursions, horseback riding tours, guided trips to the swimming storage tank (aka the ranch pool), and SUV tours. Below is a quick overview of each activity for your reference. ATV / Four-Wheeler Excursions: Tours accommodate groups of 5: 4 guests drive their own ATV, and 1 guest may ride on the back of a vehicle. Half-day: $185/person | Full-day: $300/person, showcasing the highlights of Newberry Ranch. Guests have the option to stop for a swim in the storage tank during both rides — in winter, this is affectionately called a “polar plunge.” Both excursions feature exclusive views of the Twin Sisters Mountains accessible only from private areas of the ranch. The longer full-day ride also includes historic Native American and settler sites, ranch cattle, local wildlife sightings, and unique vegetative features of Alpine and Newberry Ranch. Horseback Riding Tours: Available as half-day or full-day guided rides, suitable for all skill levels from beginner to advanced. Marfa Ride (2 hrs): $250/person; Newberry Ranch Ride (2 hrs, on-site): $300/person; Boquillas Ride (full day): $300/person. Standard capacity is 3 guests per vehicle inside the cab, with additional guests accommodated on hay bales in the back. Tours provide similar scenic access as ATV excursions, including private views of the Twin Sisters, historic features, and wildlife. Swimming Storage Tank: Enjoy a day cooling off in this spring-fed tank, which remains refreshing even on the hottest Texas summer days. Available year-round (though colder in winter) and naturally flowing, the tank continuously filters and supplies fresh water to cattle drinking tanks throughout the ranch. Guide required: $100/day for safe access, as the tank is located in a separate, unmapped portion of the ranch about 10 minutes from The Cattleman’s Headquarters. *For groups over 16, the swim is considered a private event and charged per guest rather than the base fee.* Please note: there are no bathroom facilities at the swimming tank Swimming in the storage tank is one of the most unique and rare experiences in West Texas, offered exclusively to our guests.
