Unique 1845 Artist Retreat near Appalachian Trail
Cozy 1845 Chapel Escape near Appalachian Trail and Fahnestock Park
Description
The Chapel is the unique glamping experience. It received a complete historic restoration. Artists love the acoustics. Romantics love the original glass windows. Those who love the outdoors love being next to a sprawling forest preserve. You are: a 5-minute walk to the Appalachian Trail 5 minutes from Fishkill Farms 8 minutes from Fahnestock State Park 14 minutes to the Empire State Rail Trail 15 minutes to Beacon or Hudson Highlands State Park 27 minutes to Walkway Over The Hudson! The space The Chapel at Hopeland is the completely restored former Calvary Methodist Church, circa 1845. It took us over a year, painstakingly restoring the original plaster & lathe, the floor, picking historical paints…it was a true labor of love and now we share it for all sorts of events from weddings to roasts, but the anterooms as you enter are now graced (perfect word, right?) with a luxurious queen-size bed and kitchenette with a microwave, air fryer/toaster oven, instant coffee, and mini-fridge! There is an outside patio with a grill, firepit, and Adirondack chairs. There is a small, historic cemetery on the property which you can respectfully view and research the settlers of Hortontown. Spring through Fall: We took the original woodshed (the size of a tiny house itself) and renovated it into a bathroom with toilet and sink that you can use with the water provided. There is a hammock inside that you can bring outside and hang from trees. There is also a shower area in the bathroom with an outdoor summer shower set-up. Winter (November 10-April 15) the privy is set up inside the Chapel in a privacy tent with wipes, garbage and toilet paper - (glamping type toilet and tent). The outhouse is closed for the winter season. There is 3 gallons of water provided in a glamping jug. There is also a liter of drinking water provided in the fridge. We also put the grill and outside furniture away, but you have a microwave and toaster oven….and of course, plenty of heat! This is a NO SMOKING (in the house) and NO PET (anywhere) property. PLEASE kick off your shoes when in the Chapel. You may want to bring extra socks or slippers. That’s really important. There is a shoe caddy if you need it and you want to bring your shoes in, but please do not wear your shoes in the Chapel. Guest access You have the run of the whole chapel and the patio behind the chapel where the fire pit/grill is. Just love on it as you would any 176 year-old building! Other things to note >There is a cemetery of some of the original builders of the hamlet. You may respectfully walk through the cemetery but please do not disturb the grounds. >This is a UNIQUE space so please review the information. This is a restored church with a kitchenette and a restored bathroom and running water steps away from the main building during the spring through fall, but during winter the bathroom setup is inside the Chapel in a tent with a glamping toilet situation. There is no running water during winter but water is provided in a jug as well as the refrigerator. It is GLAMPING but with heat/AC, a TV and Internet, BUT IT IS GLAMPING. 🙂 One thing: now that winter is settling in we and water will freeze so we moved the privy in a tent into the Chapel so it will be warm when you use it.
