A ladder leads upstairs to a loft with one full-sized bed and one twin bed divided by a privacy wall. (Note that NOBODY UNDER AGE 9 is allowed on the ladder or in the loft.) A big cushy chair in the living folds out into another twin bed. Vintage details have left been in place, but the cabin also has modern conveniences - new septic system, new plumbing with tiled shower, new water heater, fully supplied kitchen with a new dishwasher and fridge, and a vintage GE stove. New washer and dryer are available for your use. If you just can't get off the grid, there's hi-speed WiFi, and a large antique desk for your use, a flat-screen TV (no cable, but streaming Netflix, Amazon, Roku, Hulu), a Bluetooth speaker. and a record player with an eclectic vinyl collection or bring your own. Great place to come for a writing or work retreat. Dine in or outside on the large covered front porch or relax in the Adirondack chairs. There's a BBQ grill in the large backyard, a picnic table and a hammock to chill in. In summer, the tall trees shade the cabin and many fans keep it cool. On cooler days and nights, drink hot chocolate or tea by the wood stove, which cranks plenty of heat. (There are also space heaters in each room.) From October to April, a fire-ring is available for small bonfires. Well-behaved dogs of selective breeds are most welcome (as long as they are cleaned up after and leashed outside). Dog dishes, a blanket and toys are available. SORRY NO CATS or other pets. Games, books and puzzles will keep children and adults entertained. A booster seat, high chair and portable crib are availble, just ask. The cabin is close enough to the Salmon River to hear it rushing, and no highway noise in this quiet subdivision. Many good restaurants and historic taverns are within 5-10 minutes as well as grocery stores where firewood is available. The cabin is only 20 minutes to Skibowl, 30 minutes to historic Timberline Lodge, and 36 minutes to Mt. Hood Meadows, one of the largest ski resorts in Oregon. Sno-parks offer sledding and cross-country skiing. At 1100 altitude, snow may or may not be on the ground at the cabin, but you'll find it a short drive up the mountain in winter. In warmer seasons, walk down to the Salmon River or to the Brightwood country store. It's only a 5 minute drive to fabulous old growth hiking at the Wildwood recreation area, with a wild salmon viewing station under the pristine Salmon River. Or 5 minutes in the other direction to lovely Middle Earth-like Barlow Wayside park. The huge Sandy Ridge mountain bike trail system starts only 2 miles from the cabin. It's only 10 minutes to the Zigzag Ranger Station and the historic towns of Welches and Rhododendron, with the Salmon Huckleberry Wilderness Area right behind. Trails at all levels lead through the Mount Hood National Forest to swimmable lakes, rushing waterfalls, historic pioneer sites and alpine wildflower meadows with 7 mountain vistas. (Or, if the season is right, to huckleberry fields or wild mushrooms.) The very fun Skibowl summer Adventure Park is only 20 minutes from the cabin, with bungee jumping, ziplining and a 1/2 mile alpine slide, across the street from the restaurants and breweries of historic Government Camp. The Timberline Lodge and Mt. Hood Meadows ski resorts are only a short distance further up the mountain - they often have summer events including wine dinners and hiking via chair lifts. Guest access Guests can use the entire cabin and 1/3 acre wooded lot. Other things to note HEAT: the wood stove is the primary source of heat in the main room. It heats the entire cabin to a cozy temperature if you keep it going. It gets very hot - sometimes too hot! DO NOT LEAVE ANYTHING FLAMMABLE TOUCHING THE STOVE OR WITHIN 2 FEET. KEEP CHILDREN AWAY FROM THE STOVE. Bring your own firewood and kindling. There are several places to buy firewood nearby but it’s best to bring a few bundles to start. The home will most likely be cold when you arrive. Each room has a space heater - please be sure to turn them off when you leave the cabin. There are fans available for each room in hot weather. As this cabin is in a highly wooded, rural area, and is not hermetically sealed, or insulated, a bug occasionally finds its way in, usually a spider. And despite regular pest service, a mouse occasionally says hi. Non-aggressive brown bears have occasionally lumbered around the subdivision. If this causes you trepidation, this place is not for you!
