Mazet Magnan (Silkworm Cottage) is an old stone silk workers cottage which has been renovated to the highest standard. It offers parking, air conditioning, wifi and a fully equipped kitchen. Ideally situated in a lively town. Perfectly positioned to explore the wineries, markets, roman sites, lavender and pretty villages that Provence has to offer. You can relax in the pretty and spacious garden or use it as a base from which to pursue more active pastimes such as walking and cycling. The space The cottage was once part of an old Silk Farm and retains much of its original features. It has been upgraded to offer modern luxuries such as air-conditioning, internet, heating, HD TV, ipod dock, DVD etc. It has a very spacious feel and the garden offers a covered terrace, electric barbecue and sun loungers. Guest access The cottage is situated 2 minutes walk from the centre of Piolenc, also known as 'The capital of garlic". Piolenc is a lively town which boasts butchers, delis, pharmacies, supermarkets and enough cafes and restaurants to eat somewhere different each night. Other things to note Just a taster of some of the delights that the local area has to offer: 2,000 years of local history are waiting to be discovered including pretty provencal villages with their winding cobbled streets and lively weekly markets. There are also numerous Roman sites including the towns of Orange (4kms away), Avignon (20 mins away), Vaison La Romaine, Nimes and the Pont du Gard. The mythical landscapes and light of Provence have inspired numerous artists: Paul Cézanne, Van Gogh...The lavender fields are a sight to behold and several can be found on the outskirts of Piolenc. Provençal gastronomy is famous worldwide. Discover typical dishes such as pistou soup, visit Nyons (the 'Olive Capital') and savor regional wines such as Chateauneuf-du-Pape (15 mins away), Gigondas and Baumes de Venise. Piolenc itself also has several vineyards which can be visited. Artistic and cultural activities are numerous in the region. You can enjoy many festivals such as Jazz in the Vines, Les Choralies (Orange, in the Roman antique theatre), the famous Avignon festival and Piolenc's own annual Garlic Festival (last weekend of August). Hiking and cycling trails are numerous locally including the ViaRhôna which passes through Piolenc. The feared and revered ascent of Mont Ventoux attracts cycling fans, but it can also be conquered on foot, as you enjoy the splendid views all around.
