Other things to note The town of Uvita is flourishing with restaurants for every budget, from fine dining to modest family places (called "sodas") offering excellent seafood (of course) and typical Costa Rican fare. Uvita has many bars, groceries, surf shops, clothing stores, souvenir shops and tour operators. We have several bank branches, pharmacies, doctor and dentist offices. Major car rental agencies are here, plus a new police station, new bus station, and is just 45 minutes from two regional airports (one North, one South) and 20 minutes to the regional hospital. The beaches of Uvita and the surrounding area are part of Costa Rica's only marine national park. Marino Ballena National Park also hosts the annual Whale & Dolphin Festival (held in September). During these periods hundreds of whales return to Uvita from the Southern and Northern Hemisphere to mate. "The National Marine Park is recognized nationally and internationally for the annual visitation of different species of cetaceans such as the Humpback whale, Pilot whale, Bryde whale, Fake Killer whales; plus three resident species of dolphins including Bottle Nose, Spotted, and Spinner, as well as several species of sea turtles - Hawksbill, Green, and Olive Ridley." September and October is also the height of turtle mating season and its possible to have a chance to spot a turtle making its way onto the beach to lay its eggs. Of course just observe, give them distance and don't attempt to touch them. Our site manager, Ramie, can recommend many activities and has been known to find good discounts for Casa Blanca guests on various excursions in the area. Discover Uvita Pura Vida at Casa Blanca!
