The space Zlatorog Village The legend of Zlatorog – the Golden-horned chamois – is a story about Nature and Man, their bond and their dependence on each other. Once upon a time, the mountain pastures at Jezero and rocky Komna were an Alpine paradise. High up in the mountains under Triglav was once the home of mysterious, benevolent beings – the White Women (the Fates) and white chamois. They were led by Zlatorog, a white mountain goat with golden horns. The White Women made him invulnerable, while Zlatorog´s golden horns were the key to the treasure hidden in the heart of the mountain Bogatin. The treasure tempted a greedy, conceited hunter, who went into the mountains and shot Zlatorog to steal his golden horns. The wounded animal fell, and wherever droplets of his blood touched the ground, the Triglav rose – Potentilla nitida – sprang up. Zlatorog ate one leaf of the plant and was immediately healed. In his fury he hurled the hunter into the abyss, and then proceeded to destroy the magnificent pastures until nothing but bare rock remained. The hunter paid for his greed and insolence with his life. In time the pastures recovered, but the White Women, Zlatorog, and the herd of white goats had left them forever. Take care of the natural world, love and respect the unspoiled landscape, and keep it clean. Walk respectfully into Zlatorog Village.
