The bricks were handmade from Brazos River sand. The walls are 13 inches solid with interior plaster. Many facets of the house are original to the house: The walls, roof, and most of the light fixtures. This house was recorded as a Texas Historic Landmark in 1971. At the Sturgis house, we have a view of the beautiful Historic, St. Mary's Catholic Church. Founded in 1869, the congregation erected its first sanctuary in 1870. The bell for the church was purchased in France and donated to the church in 1900. The tradition of the musical chimes can still be heard every hour. This house is within walking distance to downtown and located in the commercial district. It takes only 4 minutes to drive to Magnolia Market, also known as the Silos. It takes 7 minutes to drive to Baylor and it only takes 5 minutes to drive to McLennan County Court House. There are restaurants, retail stores, and other fun entertainment nearby for your convenience. If you want to just stay home and eat or play, we do have a big deck with a barbeque grill, fuse ball, two tables with chairs, and an outdoor sectional sofa with a fire pit table. We also have a big back yard and a ping pong table. If it rains, we have you covered with our downstairs sun room full of board games, checkers, chest game, and cards. In Waco, this house is affectionately known as the Sturgis house. Mr. and Mrs. James H. Sturgis bought this house in 1912. Three generations of the Sturgis family lived in this house, impacted Waco, and contributed to making Waco what it is now. The City of Waco dedicated a water fountain to Mr. and Mrs. James H. Sturgis, in front of City Hall for all their contributions to the city. This house was also purchased and restored in August of 1983 by Lyndon L. Olson, O. Charles Buenger, and Charles D. Olson to use as law offices. Lyndon Lowell Olson Jr. (born March 7, 1947) is an American business executive and diplomat. He served as U.S Ambassador to Sweden between 1997 and 2001. We have preserved as much history as we can, including furniture from the original era and some new furniture that looks like it came from that era. This house has five bedrooms: three bedrooms in the main house, one converted bedroom that used to be the carriage house for the horses, and one bedroom which was once the original servant quarters. The carriage house has a ramp and the main house also has a ramp to the first floor. All the bedrooms have a bathroom except for one bedroom in the main house.
