Upon entering The Old Chapel, built in 1902, you can't fail to notice the beautiful original tiled floor leading to a spacious hall where your adventure begins. Kick off your shoes, hang up your coat and breathe. There's plenty of room here to leave everything from walking boots and jackets to buckets and spades. The family room has a large smart TV and an Amazon Dot. Both bedrooms have smart TVs and Amazon Dots. The kitchen is fully equipped including all cutlery, crockery, cooking equipment, Dulce Gusto coffee maker, dishwasher, large fridge/freezer, washer/drier. The utility cupboard in the hall is where you’ll find the laundry basket, pegs, iron and mini ironing board and other housekeeping items you might need. Across the little car park, a gate leads into our private garden where you can relax and enjoy your morning coffee enjoying the fresh island air. Small BBQ. ( coals not supplied).Pull out washing line. Small completely fenced and gated , which can be bolted) garden backing on to fields. Perfect for little ones and/or four legged friends. Please note there is NO direct access from the chapel into the garden. I'm 5 minutes from The Old Chapel but always available by phone, text, Airbnb message. Apse Heath is a small, friendly, hamlet on the main A3056 from Newport to Sandown and a really easy place to access all the island from. There is one shop/post office, Raj's Premier, open 7 days, that stocks all your grocery essentials. Three minutes away by car in Lake, there are both Aldi and Morrisons supermarkets. You'll be close to many nice country walks and National Trust owned Borthwood Copse. More details can be found in our book. Turn left onto the road and you're ten minutes away from the award winning beaches of Shanklin and Sandown. No dogs are allowed on some of the beaches from May to September but there are areas that are dog friendly all year. Being on a small island a beach is never far away and they're all so different, with one to suit all needs. More details are in our information book. Turn right and you're on the road to Newport, our county town, via three very nice pubs with great food and a fabulous farm shop selling all sorts of artisan deliciousness. The Bear Cafe in the garden centre on the road to Lake/Sandown serves very tasty lunches and great cake and is open every day. Sandown Airfield is a 15 minute walk or 2 minute drive down the hill where you can watch the planes and even have an air experience in a aeroplane or microlight. There's also a little bistro here. If you don't drive or feel like leaving the car at home one day, the number 8 bus stops virtually outside the Old Chapel. Buses run hourly . See Southern Vectis website for timetable. The nearest train stations are in Shanklin and Sandown where you can travel to Ryde Pier for mainland links. We're delighted that we have 'new' trains on the island. They're refurbished London Underground trains that have replaced the 80 years old previous stock. Yes, really! Honestly, nowhere is far away on the Isle of Wight and what we consider heavy traffic is laughable compared to other places. The longest journey you'll make here will only take about 40 minutes... yes, there will be tractors, there will be horses, there will be cyclists but don't fight it, just kick back and take in the views, have a sing song and enjoy the island vibe. Red Funnel 25% discount if booked before 31/1/24 for travel all year. PARKING . There is a dedicated and free parking space for The Old Chapel. It is the middle space which is named. There is also free on street parking.
