Description

River Cottage is a cosy cottage for two situated in a peaceful idyllic valley on the southern edge of beautiful Snowdonia. It's the perfect getaway for couples looking for a peaceful retreat or a base to explore Snowdonia and the rest of North and Mid Wales. Completely refurbished before opening in Autumn 2022, River Cottage has a cosy but modern style with a blend of stylish design and rustic character. The space River Cottage is annexed to our own house but is designed so that you will have complete privacy during your stay. The cottage sits in its own large garden, with streams running through and the picturesque River Twrch flowing past the bottom of the lawn. There is an abundance of wildlife to spot; regular visitors include herons, dippers, wagtails and woodpeckers, and if you are lucky you may spot a kingfisher or an otter! There’s plenty of great walking and outdoor activities close by in Dyfnant Forest (a short walk away) and the Dyfi Valley. Lake Vyrnwy is just 10 miles away and Aberdyfi and Barmouth, with their gorgeous sandy beaches, are around 45-50 minutes away. The cottage is a 30 minute drive from Machynlleth (home to the UK’s best restaurant, Ynyshir - booking essential!), Dolgellau, Welshpool and Newtown. Further afield you will find traditional seaside towns such as Aberystwyth, Porthmadog, Llandudno and Conwy to explore. Plus, of course, the majestic Snowdonia National Park is on your doorstep. Check out our Insta: /walesrivercottage Guest access FIRST FLOOR Bedroom Luxurious, very comfortable king size bed. Garden and river views. Egyptian cotton bedding (or relaxed linen bedding in summer). Bathroom Newly fitted bathroom with a large walk-in rainfall shower. Fluffy towels and luxury brand toiletries provided. *Please note there is no bathtub at the cottage* GROUND FLOOR Kitchen Bespoke, well-equipped kitchen nestled amongst huge oak beams. With full size fridge and freezer, dishwasher, oven and induction hob and a Nespresso coffee machine. Seating/dining area. Stable door with river views. Utility Room Additional space located off the kitchen with washer/dryer (please bring your own laundry detergent), microwave, fitted units providing storage, and useful additional sink area. Ironing board and iron provided. Lounge Our favourite space. Snug velvet sofa and super-comfortable armchair. Window seat with river views. Smart TV with Netflix, iPlayer, etc. Wood-burning stove. OUTSIDE Garden Beautiful welsh slate patio area spanning the front of the cottage, with Hay outdoor furniture. A sun trap in the warmer months! Gently sloping lawned area leading down to the river. Outside storage Space to lock away your gear. Ample space for a couple of bikes, golf clubs or kayaks. There is room to park one or two cars on the driveway, but please note that the driveway itself is steep and care should be taken. There are no EV charging facilities available at the cottage. Other things to note We do welcome well behaved dogs. However, please note that due to the size of the cottage, this is restricted to 1 large or 2 smaller dogs in total, and we ask that you do not allow any dogs upstairs or on any furniture. Please do not leave your dogs unattended at any time. Access to the river is not restricted in any way, and you will be responsible for the safety of your pets during your stay. Dogs should be on a lead and/or closely supervised at all times as the garden is not secure and the cottage is surrounded by fields of sheep and cattle. Due to our valley location, the cottage grounds are mostly sloping and uneven. There are also lots of open waterways in the immediate area. Because of this we sadly cannot accept children as guests, and we ask that you take care when exploring the grounds. The cottage was built in the 1800s and so it has some low ceilings and steep stairs. This, together with the sloping and uneven grounds mentioned above, means that the cottage may not be suitable for those with mobility difficulties. At this time, the cottage does not have any EV charging facilities, and so please make sure that you are comfortable with the charging facilities available in the area before booking your stay with us.
