Escape the winter chill and find solace at the Heron's Nest. Picture yourself nestled on a window seat, sipping hot cocoa, and gazing at the frosted trees. The surrounding woodland transforms into a winter wonderland, offering a serene backdrop for your retreat. Warm up in the cedar hot tub, where steam rises into the crisp winter air. Before and after your soak, experience the unique sensation of an outdoor shower, enclosed in cedar and open above. It's a winter spa experience like no other! Gather around the backyard fire pit, where the warmth of the flames contrasts with the cold, and share tales of winter adventures under a canopy of soaring trees. Adjacent to the frosty Holiday Lake, you can enjoy the tranquil ambiance, watch winter birds, and perhaps even engage in a snowball fight. A brisk walk from the cabin leads you to winter recreational areas, including covered picnic spots and a pirate ship playground. The community also offers a saltwater beach, perfect for winter beachcombing. The clubhouse, with its deck and mesmerizing views, becomes even more enchanting with Mt Baker in the background under a thick blanket of snow. Inside the cabin, the two-bedroom, two-bathroom space is a haven of warmth and coziness. Sunlight filters through the windows, reflecting and illuminating the wood interiors. Vaulted ceilings add to the spacious feel, while the whimsical winter decor invites relaxation. Each bedroom offers a window seat, perfect for watching the wintery weather. The king bedroom features an ensuite with heated floors—pure bliss after a day in the cold. The second bedroom, with its double bed, promises restful nights and enchanting morning views. The kitchen, complete with a gas cooktop and oven, is ready for winter feasts. Dine indoors at the unique tree root table or enjoy a winter barbecue on the deck. Outside, the cedar hot tub offers panoramic views of Bellingham Bay, especially mesmerizing as the winter sun sets. And as night falls, gather around the fire pit, gaze at the starry sky, and let the tranquility of winter on Lummi Island wash over you. To afford such privacy as you will find at the Heron's Nest Cabin there is a steep driveway. Care must be taken traversing up or down the driveway. There is an outside surveillance camera which will not be monitored during your stay. It is for security when the home is vacant. The entire home is available exclusively to our guests during their stay. As a professionally managed property you will receive top notch service and communication. PNW Concierge has a team ready to assist you before and during your stay. We offer superior pre-stay information and services to ensure your vacation will be the best it can be! We prepare the Heron's Nest Cabin with you in mind, taking care of the cleaning and preparation so you don't have to worry about a thing. During your stay we are available to assist you with your questions about the house, the island and the surrounding area. We also limit our check out instructions - run the dishwasher, lock the windows and doors, and take out the trash if it's stinky - THAT'S IT! Feel confident (and pampered) when you book with PNW Concierge LLC! If you prefer to have your groceries or something special in the house upon your arrival guests may order concierge service as a separate amenity from this booking by going to PNW Concierge on the web. Other services and amenities are available as well, including during stay housekeeping, and a personal chef service (when available)! Once you book, we will send you all the information you need to plan and have a great stay. If you have any questions about the house or the area prior to booking please contact us, we will happily answer any questions you have. Lummi Island is a special place - time seems to slow down when you cross from the mainland on the Whatcom Chief. Expect relaxation and rejuvenation. The Heron's Nest Cabin is in the lovely Lummi Island Scenic Estates which is a community that supports a boat dock and ramp, community building, swimming lake with a covered picnic area with restrooms, and a nearby playground, volleyball court and basketball hoop. The North End of the island has a loop road that is open to vistas of the mainland, the Salish Sea, and the islands beyond. You can travel the loop by foot, bike or by car - take your time and enjoy every turn. There are a number of preserves on the island which offer short nature hikes, or a hike up the side of the mountain to reach a vista point that has amazing views to the south of the San Juan Islands - a must do! Lummi Island boasts the Beach Store Cafe, usually open Wednesday through Sunday, and the Islander Store which is the hub of the island - a general store with a collection of artists items next door and the Saturday market from Memorial Day through Labor Day. There are also farm and flower stands around the island and you can usually buy fresh eggs along the roadside. Lummi Island is home to a variety of artists who are happy to open their studios, mostly by appointment. Check out our island guide prior to your arrival. A trip on the Whatcom Chief Ferry is required to get to the Heron's Nest Cabin. The ferry is operated by Whatcom County, and runs at least every hour between 6.40am and midnight on weekdays, a little less on weekends. Round trip fare is $14 for the vehicle and driver and $8 per passenger or for walk-ons. Fare is collected during the run to the island by the purser who will come to your vehicle to collect - credit or debit card only, no cash is accepted. Walk, bike or drive to the house from the ferry dock and 'downtown' Lummi Island. We are approximately 3.5 miles from this area of the island. 'Downtown Lummi Island' consists of The Islander - general store, coffee and pastries, wine, beer and alcohol. Also attached is Sisters Gallery which highlights Island Crafters and Artisans. The Island Library has books and movies, of course but also an island history section. The Island Post Office is a full service post office with limited hours, and the Beach Store Cafe has great pizza and specials every weekend. The cabin is on a hill so care must be taken when nearing slopes and traversing around trees and other natural areas. Watch the weather forecast as it may be difficult to access if there is ice or snow. A Rental Agreement regarding the home is required to be signed by the guest on the booking before the cancellation period ends. The agreement will be sent to you through the booking platform upon booking.
