It sleeps eight comfortably in two king beds, one queen bed and two twin beds in the loft. Children and pets are welcome. This property is so close to the beach that you can hear the crashing waves from “The Roost”. If you want to be connected, while getting away. We provide Starlink internet service. Most homes have little to no internet coverage out of the city limits, but Starlink is a way to stay completely connected. Starlink delivers high-speed, low-latency internet to users in rural communities. Starlink offers a maximum download speed of 114 Mbps, while 5G technology can provide speeds up to 20 Gbps. When we think of Fort Bragg, it brings a sense of peace and happiness to mind. We love this quiet corner of California where the ocean greets the rugged Mendocino coast and the Pacific fog nourishes the serene forests. This is the perfect get-a-way. The people are friendly, the food is incredible and it is a favorite place for many. The Roost is your own five acre estate during your visit. You are close to the ocean, but in the sunbelt for extra sunshine and you can hear the roaring waves at night when all is still. We love to open the windows and let the waves lull us to sleep. The Roost has a pond right outside your window with abundant outdoor decks surrounding the pond. There is also a huge grassy area for your family to enjoy surrounded by Redwood and Eucalyptus trees. Abundant wildlife visit the property. Ducks visit the pond and occasionally otters wander up from the river. It is not uncommon for deer to graze on the grass. There is also abundant parking surrounded by rhododendrons. Relax with your favorite beverage on the front deck with an outdoor fireplace and BBQ. There is a private airport close to the property and you can occasionally see small prop planes land on a sunny day. It is a treat to see what we call the Red Baron come in for a landing. If it is raining outside, no problem. Entertain your family and friends in our game room equipped with a pool table and we provide cards, games and books. We also have a bar so you can mix your favorite concoction. The home itself is very unique with vaulted ceilings in the living room where you can relax near the roaring fire. It is a large cozy space with ceilings of pine wood. The fireplace is a talking point because you will never see anything like this again. It was formerly a round propane tank that was converted into a huge fireplace. It was custom built and placed into the home before it was built. The whole house was built around the fireplace! Sit on comfy couches scattered with pillows and blankets. We provide Roku where you can select your streaming service on our huge television. Preparing a meal or a snack is a treat in the well-appointed kitchen with a gas range and two ovens or you can barbecue on the propane BBQ on the deck. We have a huge refrigerator and a bonus refrigeration in the garage. We also have brand new washer and dryers available for your use. Special attention has been taken to assure a lush and sumptuous night’s rest. Our king mattresses are made right in Mendocino. At FloBeds, they craft their mattresses from supple, durable Talalay latex. FloBeds’ are breathable, hypoallergenic and environmentally friendly. All Talalay mattresses are covered with organic cotton, giving an extra layer of comfort. We have fluffy duvets in soft materials. An array of pillows are available for all sleepers. Extra blankets are also available. The queen bedroom has a plush memory foam mattress that is really cozy. Upstairs in the loft, you can use this area as a 4th bedroom complete with two twin beds or you can use the amazing desk for an office while overlooking the beautiful grounds of The Roost. If you are up for an adventure, Fort Bragg is your place – hiking, biking, rail, bikes, kayaking, diving, fishing, horseback riding and whale watching. Outdoor magazine named Fort Bragg one of 64 of the best cities in America for outdoor adventure. We will also provide a list of recommendations to you before your visit so you can plan your own adventure. Fort Bragg and Mendocino is a culinary experience. We have everything from incredible ocean front fish and chips freshly caught off the coast to Michelin Star restaurants. Not to mention the incredible breweries and wineries that are up and down the coast. If you are feeling artsy, Mendocino is the place for you. It is very artistic and filled with art galleries, quirky shops, fun restaurants and my favorite bars, Patterson’s Pub and Dicks. All overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It is the most beautiful town!!!! Art galleries, museums, an aquatic fitness center, Mendocino Botanical Gardens and the Skunk Train are other outstanding offerings. We love helping others find fun and adventure (whether mild or wild) in Fort Bragg and the Mendocino Coast. We think The Roost is an amazing home for you to discover or rediscover the Mendocino coast. Come and create memories here! Winter Months in Fort Bragg: The Mendocino Coast offers a quiet beauty that few places possess, perfect for nature lovers and relaxed coastal exploration. Mushroom Foraging Late fall through winter is prime mushroom season along the Mendocino Coast. After the first rains, local forests and coastal trails become ideal for spotting wild mushrooms like chanterelles and porcini. Guided foraging walks and workshops are often available locally and are highly recommended for safety and education. Coastal Walks & Storm Watching Winter brings dramatic ocean views and powerful waves. Walk the coastal paths at Noyo Headlands Park, Pudding Creek, or MacKerricher State Park, where moody skies and fresh sea air make for unforgettable scenery. Whale Watching Gray whales migrate along the coast during winter and early spring. You can often spot them from shore or join a local whale-watching tour for a closer look. Redwood Forest Hikes Cooler temperatures make this an ideal time to explore nearby redwood forests. Trails at Jug Handle State Natural Reserve and inland parks are lush, green, and peaceful after seasonal rains. Glass Beach & Tide pools Winter tides are excellent for exploring tide pools and walking along Glass Beach. It’s a great time to observe marine life, especially during low tide, while helping preserve the area by leaving sea glass in place. Gardens & Nature Reserves The Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens are especially serene this season, with winter blooms, coastal views, and fewer crowds. It’s also a wonderful spot for birdwatching. Skunk Train Adventures Ride the historic Skunk Train through redwood groves for a cozy, scenic experience that’s enjoyable year-round and especially charming in cooler months. Noyo Harbor & Local Dining Spend time at Noyo Harbor watching fishing boats come and go, then warm up with fresh seafood or chowder at one of the harbor restaurants. Winter in Fort Bragg is all about slower days, wild landscapes, and seasonal experiences you won’t find anywhere else—perfect for guests looking to unplug and reconnect with nature. Guest access You will have access to all parts of this property. We have certain sheds locked due to equipment that we do not want people to change or use such as lawnmowers and pond filtration Other things to note The morning dew is beautiful and refreshing. We request that you put away the patio cushions in the container during the evening so that they are not wet for you the next day. If you do use the fish cleaning station, please put the fish scraps in the garbage cans located in the enclosure to the left of the fish cleaning station so that it does not attract critters.
