15th century cottage in West Devon close to the river, just 4 miles north of Dartmoor with amazing scenery, dark skies, beautiful sunsets and walks from the cottage along the river, fields and woods Off lead walks for dogs and swimming for those that love the water. For the wildlife lover we have a mass of wild birds visiting our feeders and the river. Photographers bring your camera, fishermen your fishing gear, walkers your boots. Just relax and enjoy the tranquillity. EV CHARGER ON SITE . The space The Old Mill cottage contains 2 characterfull ensuite bedroom both with king size beds that can be made up as singles if required, there is also room for a childs bed or cot when the room is made up as a king size. Both rooms have televisions and are equipped with Egyptian cotton sheets, throws and Egyptian cotton towels. Due to the age of the property some doorways are low so do be aware of this. The sitting room has a sofa bed and a woodburner, also a large smart tv behind the mirror. Inside and under the sideboard are lots of games, childrens toys and puzzles. The dining room also has a woodburner and a table to seat 6 plus high chair if required. There is also a downstairs bathroom with a bath. The kitchen contains cooker, fridge, work top freezer, dishwasher, oil fired boiler, microwave, large larder for your provisions, cupboard with crockery and cooking dishes, iron and ironing board, drawer with cutlery. There is also a rotary clothes line, pegs, and cushions for the outside furniture, parasol and outdoor games. The garden which looks across fields and the river is fully enclosed as is the large gravel drive. There are table and chairs, sun loungers, parasol, firepit and bbq provided. we also have a bird feeding station where you will see a massive array of wild birds You can follow the tamac track ( the old road) down to the river with beautiful scenery and walks all along the river, through fields and woods beyond. The river is a haven for many creatures, you may see king fishers, herons, grey wagtails, dippers, tree creepers, woodpeckers, trout and salmon in the water and maybe even an otter. To the right of the tarmac track is our orchard which has a large picnic table with seats for 6 people and fire pit for guests use, the orchard is great for family games (many provided) rounders, croquet and garden jenga. Our wood store is in the orchard where you can purchase extra wood for the fires ( we provide some) also charcoal and firelighters. The orchard has walkways down to the water where you can paddle, skim stones, build dams, swim ( at your own risk, supervision advised) or just enjoy the beauty of the river. Fly fishing is permitted along our stretch if river which runs from under the road bridge to our shepherds hut. We live in the mill itself and are happy for you to go down to the water to fish by our house as this is a good fishing place. ( please ask us before you go down though) We have two cottages The Old Mill and The Millers Cottage. If available, both cottages can be rented together. They are divided by large fire doors which can be opened up to give a four ensuite bedroomed cottage sleeping 8 plus. we also have The Old Mill Annexe ( part of the original watermill) sleeping 4 and our cute shepherds hut sleeping 2. All properties together can sleep 15 plus for larger family or friends gatherings. Guest access The cottage has a private enclosed garden and gravel drive which is solely for the use of The Old Mill cottage guests. The orchard is a communal area that can be used by both our cottages, annexe and our shepherds hut guests. The walkways and access to the river along our boundary is also for use only by our guests and us. The walks along the river are public footpaths, although they are not used extensively by people other than our guests and us. Other things to note Not only are there lots of things to do here at The Old Mill, fabulous river walks, fishing, river swimming, paddling and playing in the water.( children should of course be superivised) we provide lots of games for the orchard too, garden jenga, rounders, croquet etc. Further afield there are lots of attractions beautiful gardens to visit, The Garden House, Stone lane, R.H.S Rosemoor, Clovelly Court, Marwood Hill to name a few. The National Trust has lots of local properties too, Finch fiundry, Castle Drogo, Lydford gorge, and many more in south Devon and Cornwall. For the family there is of course Tamar valley zip wires, tree walking and canoeing, pony treking on Dartmoor, Chagford outdoor heated pool, and only an hour away, The Eden project and Helligan gardens. There are also a selecion of restaurants and cafes in Okehampton and there are lots of cosy dog friendly pubs in the local villages, many on Dartmoor with incredible scenery and most with lovely garden to enjoy the sun in.
