River House on the Choptank

Welcome to the River House! Stay in our renovated home on the Choptank River of MD's Eastern Shore, with your own low-tide beach and magnificent sunsets. We offer a peaceful location and thoughtful detail, creating a memorable getaway for a relaxing weekend or remote work location. Enjoy a day on the river with our paddle board or 2 kayaks, and end the day around the firepit. In cool weather, cozy up next to the fireplace. Also, visit nearby towns--St. Michaels, Easton, Oxford, and Chestertown. The space We paid a lot of attention to detail to make the home bright, comfortable and stylish--all with the goal of making you feel present and at home. There are 4 bedrooms, with one queen bed, two double beds, and a bunk bed. There's also a double-size pull out sofa in the TV room. We have two full baths, with one walk-in shower on the first floor and a shower/tub combo on the second floor. The second floor bathroom is a Jack and Jill style between the two bedrooms. This set up may not work for you, but building a third bathroom is not an option (even though some previous guests think they should make this recommendation anyway). 😂 We've tried to anticipate your needs with a fully stocked kitchen because cooking like you're at home is just nicer. The dining table is set up for 4 people, but it can expand to accommodate 6. A bright, colorful desk and chair are available for remote working. But don't work inside all the time, when the deck overlooking the river also provides a great option. The house has two heating/cooling zones. The thermostat to the lower level (except the TV room) is located in the living room to the left of the fireplace. The thermostat to the TV room and the upper level is located in the TV room just behind the door. The upper level will be warmer in the summer because, of course, heat rises. Guests are welcome to change the heat/cool settings to their desired comfort level. At the end of the day, fire up the grill and eat on the deck, while watching the birds make their way back for the night. Don't forget to take in the sunset from the adirondack chairs. Then, move to the firepit to roast marshmallows, while sipping a nice cup of hot tea or glass of wine. We are centrally located within a short drive of many beautiful towns, including St. Michaels, Easton, Oxford, and Chestertown. For those who are up for a day trip to the beach, we are also only about 50 miles from Rehoboth Beach, DE. Guest access Guests will have access to the entire home, and use of the paddle board, kayak and life vests. Other things to note The home is located in a quiet, residential waterfront community. This is a peaceful location. Absolutely no events or parties. Quiet time is from 9pm-8am, and respectful volumes at all other times. If you would like to bring your boat or personal watercraft, you can launch at a public boat ramp less than a block away. Any public slip use or trailers left at ramp site may need a permit. You can obtain a permit through the county. Otherwise, you can park the boat/PWC/trailer in the driveway of the home. Being located on a watershed of the Chesapeake Bay provides for ample opportunity to birdwatch. We have it all! From cackling seagulls to migrating ducks and geese, as well as majestic herons and eagles. Just sit on the deck or in the adirondacks and watch them all.
