Hida - Machiya near Old Town Takayama

Hida House is a large machiya style house located right next to Takayama city’s Old Town. Resembling a Japanese style mountain lodge, the house is a mix of east and west, and only a 10 minute walk to the station and a 5 minute walk to the main sights in Takayama city. Description of the house The space Hida House is a large machiya style house located right next to Takayama city’s Old Town. Resembling a Japanese style mountain lodge, the house is a mix of east and west, and only a 10 minute walk to the station and a 5 minute walk to the main sights in Takayama city. Description of the house On the ground floor, there is a large living room with tatami floors and a “horigotatsu,” a traditional Japanese style table where you sit on the floor, but your feet fall freely beneath you. Past the bathroom and restroom is a western style kitchen looking out onto a private garden. The kitchen allows for easy cooking and is great for couples or large groups, and the small garden deck is great to enjoy the garden under the open sky. Uptairs, there are three bedrooms with a mix of western style beds and futons. The master bedroom is very spacious with a double bed, while the other two futon rooms offer privacy for the other members of your party. There is a small balcony looking out to a shrine behind the house, perfect for enjoying a cup of tea or sipping some famous Takayama sake. The neighborhood This property is located in between the station and the old town, both accessible within ten minutes on foot. Takayama, being a small town, is calm and relaxing but brimming with things to do! You can enjoy a beautiful walk down old town and visit many craft shops, local sake breweries and even see wooden crafts being created. In the morning, you can stroll through the morning market and enjoy tasting many fresh vegetables with a great view of the river. At night, you can go through Dekonaru Yokocho, which is an excellent bar / restaurant road, filled with food booths and even games for small children during certain times of the year, fun for the whole family!
