Other things to note This historic downtown flat is located in the absolute center of Downtown Traverse City. There may not be a location that is more convenient for walking around downtown and exploring the shops, restaurants, coffee shops, galleries, craft distilleries or microbreweries, or going to the public beach and marina nearby. You have street level access to downtown TC and the many activities, attractions, and events that Traverse City has to offer year round. This means that our building is located in an urban setting where there is activity nearby and at times just outside the front door and living room. This is especially true in the summer months, during festivals and events, or on weekends and holidays. If you are very sensitive to sound or privacy or are looking for a super quiet retreat, this space may not be the best option for you. That said, this is a surprisingly quiet space. The overwhelming majority of our guests absolutely love the space and the location, and they rarely have any issues with noise, though it does happen every now and again. The bedroom in this unit is located along an interior wall that is in a quieter part of the building which is quite peaceful. The sofa bed is in the main living space along the sidewalk and Cass St. As a result, it may have some street noise from pedestrian and vehicle traffic at times. As a result, the sleeper sofa isn't as good for the lighter sleepers out there. While you probably won’t need them, we do provide white noise machines fans in every unit for those who need it and can even supply ear plugs upon request for the extra light sleepers. The building is well insulated. The exterior brick walls are over a foot thick and the windows are double paned. During our renovation, we actually went through great lengths to make it a quieter space. We installed double ceilings and double walls between each and every unit, utilizing extra layers of drywall and sound channel and packed with lots of rock wool for sound insulation. These efforts have limited most of the potential for noise between units. Even still, the building itself is a 130 years old brick building, and some sound still carries between floors or walls. If someone is obnoxiously loud in the unit above you, you will probably hear it. For this reason, we do ask that all of our guests are extra respectful of each other's need for quiet time in the building after 10pm. We also ask that if other guests don't respect your need for peace and quiet, that you simply let us know while it is happening. If you give us a chance to handle it, we promise you we will take care of it for you and we will do it swiftly. If you wait until after checkout to mention a noise issue, we won't have the opportunity to resolve a situation for you while it is well within our power to do so. You have a right to peace and quiet and Traverse City has a noise ordinance downtown after 10pm that they enforce. In the unlikely instance that noise from outside the unit is keeping you up, please don’t hesitate to contact them to uphold the noise ordinance and let us know as well so we can follow up with them. As far as privacy goes, we have installed top down bottom up blackout blinds in every unit. These things are awesome if you know how to use them properly. To realize their benefit, you have to pull them down from the top. When you do this, you maintain a level of privacy on the ground level while also letting in natural light from above. This flat is ideal for people who want a safe, comfortable, well appointed rental with lots of charm and character in a super accessible location to walk everywhere downtown. If you want a scenic view of the outdoors you can see a lot of the City out the living room window, but you will give up some privacy to take in the view. We recommend using the blinds from the top down so that you can let in some higher up views and light while maintaining street level Privacy. You can always walk a short distance to get in some nature along the bay, the river, or our many other parks nearby.
