Description

Enjoy elevated camping at our family-run, organic farm, Granja Urkuwayku on the Ilaló Volcano. We have two tents available (Cotopaxi and Pasachoa), each with a spectacular view. Located 50 meters from your tent, awaits a furnished kitchen and your own bathroom with shower. We provide breakfast, including farm-fresh yogurt, granola, eggs, bread, juice, and coffee. Prepare your own lunch and dinner. Hundreds of kms of hiking and biking trails surround, including hot springs just minutes away. The space Granja Urkuwayku is a family-run organic farm on 5 hectares. Through water harvesting and creative use of plants and animals, over 20 years, we managed to transform a degraded wasteland into an oasis that becomes greener with every passing year. We grow over 50 crops, including European vegetables, Andean grains, roots, and tubers, mushrooms, as well as fruits, herbs, and ornamentals. We also rear guinea pigs (a local delicacy), chickens for egg production, and bees for honey. There are a trampoline and swing set for kids. We are active in Ecuador's lively agroecology and alternative food movements and have close ties with pioneering farmers, chefs, and food activists. We'd be pleased to share our experience and point you towards other exciting experiences in the country. We offer a glamping platform tent with a queen-sized bed and space for setting up two additional single mattresses. If further space is needed for additional people, we recommend renting out a second platform tent (as per availability). Guest access Guests have full run of the farm as well as access to the surrounding volcano. When open, hot springs await just 3 kms away (a 20-minute walk) in the Village of La Merced. If you would prefer not to cook, we would be pleased to recommend provocative local restaurants, breweries, and cafes. Other things to note Further to hiking Ilaló, you can use Urkuwayku as your base camp for hiking or mountaineering on six surrounding volcanoes (Pichincha, Pasachoa, Ruminahui, Sincholagua, Ilinizas Norte, and Sur) as well as the glaciers Antisana, Cotopaxi, and Cayambe, all within a two-hour drive. If the outdoors were in your plans, we'd be pleased to share our experience and recommend a highly qualified biking, rafting, or mountaineering service. Please note that camping involves a degree of exposure to the elements, and the climate on the equator and at high altitudes can be extreme. Visitors should arrive prepared for a diversity of weather. In addition, please note that we have multiple animals (chickens, guinea pigs, cats, dogs, bees, and other insects) and plants (vegetables, field crops, fruit trees, and other species) on the farm. If you have a particular allergy or other concern, do not hesitate to consult us before making a reservation. Airbnb's Terms of Service state that you must be at least 18 years old to open an account.
