We also supply firewood to use during your stay! It is located at the side of the property under a tarp to keep it dry. Check current fire bans at Ontario Parks .ca for "Selkirk". Water Access During the warmer months (end of May – early October) we have stairs down to the water. This gives you easy access to go swimming, kayaking, paddles boarding, etc. Check current water safety at Ontario Parks .ca under "Selkirk" for Lake Erie water testing. Lake Erie is also a living lake, which means it contains algae, fish, and other living organisms. Depending on the season (and recent storms) these things can come and go and sometimes be more prominent in the water. Be aware that mother nature is not always on our side and does not always provide perfect weather and conditions for lake use. House Tap Water Our cottage is on a cistern, we have municipal water trucked in. It is potable, but limited. Please be respectful of your water usage, we appreciate it! DISCLAIMER: Please note, this is a cottage on a lake - we do have the exterior of the cottage sprayed throughout the Summer season - there will inevitably still be bugs present outdoors. At times, they can be a lot! So come prepared to see bugs - mayflies, spiders, bees, etc. Lake Erie is a living lake, which means it contains algae, fish, and other living organisms. Depending on the season (and recent storms) these things can come and go and sometimes be more prominent in the water. Guest access During your stay, the home is all yours. Our check-in process is easy and keyless. Make yourself at home! Other things to note SUPPLIES: We'll get you started with items such as toilet paper, soap, detergent, cleaning supplies, paper towel. However you will be responsible for purchasing additional, if needed (should only be needed if you are staying for longer durations). STAIRS TO WATER: Lake Erie conservation requires removal of stairs during the winter months. So the stairs to the water are installed in early May and stay in until mid October. FISHING: If you would like to fish during your stay you will need to acquire a Fishing Licence from Ontario Fish & Wildlife and supply your own gear. LAKE ERIE ALGAE: Please note, Lake Erie does have algae blooms that come and go throughout the season with the storms and the wind. While we hope you have an algae free stay, sometimes the algae does come into the shoreline and may impact your ability to swim in the lake.
