Description

Hidden away within the historic Italian Garden at Great Ambrook, between Dartmoor and the south Devonshire coast, this newly built home discreetly nestled within the walled orchard has been beautifully designed in harmony with its unique setting. Modern in design with stunning floor-to-ceiling windows, oiled wood floors, stylish interiors and garden views, the house offers open-plan living, with three luxurious en suite bedrooms, a cosy fireplace and outdoor dining in complete privacy. The space The Italian Garden House sits within what used to be the walled kitchen garden of Great Ambrook House. In keeping with its origins, the old apple trees have been retained as the backdrop to the new, contemporary planting, designed with wildlife in mind. The cabin itself has a green, sedum roof chosen to both increase biodiversity and to ensure it is completely concealed from view. Double doors lead to outdoor seating and dining areas, complete with dining table, chairs for six and a charcoal BBQ grill for meals alfresco. The separate fire pit terrace is perfect for watching the stars and roasting marshmallows, wrapped up in a cosy blanket. Guests also have unlimited access to the Italian Garden and can enjoy it in privacy outside of working hours for volunteers and guided tours (9am-6pm). See more details under guest access. This stylish home features an open-plan living design. With the magnificent floor-to-ceiling windows, the kitchen and dining space enjoys calming views onto the walled orchard garden with its contemporary planting. The doors can be opened during summer months, to bring the outside in, whilst underfloor heating and a gorgeous fireplace keep things toasty warm in winter. Dressed in calming organic hues in keeping with its surroundings and sumptuously furnished, you'll find comfort, elegance and luxury - a wonderful living space to while away restful afternoons and cosy evenings. In the bespoke, modern kitchen, you'll find all the mod cons needed to create fabulous meals, including an induction hob, instant hot water tap, a double oven and the all-important Nespresso coffee machine. With a sociable island feature and large oak dining table, the open-plan design makes it an elegant yet comfortable space to share. In the living area you’ll find a comfortable sofa and cosy armchairs around a coffee table where, on cooler days, you can settle in beside the fire with an array of games, cards and books to enjoy. Catch up on your favourite series on the Smart TV or select from an eclectic selection of original LP records to set the ambiance. There are three beautiful bedrooms to choose from at the Italian Garden House, all of which offer comfortable mattresses and goose down duvets along with luxurious, organic cotton bedlinen. Each bedroom has a garden view and elegant furnishings, from the bedside tables with reading lights, brass clothes hanging rails and stylish console dressing tables to the stunning photographs from the garden decorating the walls. The en suite shower rooms feature classical marble and bronze vanity units. Guest access Guests have exclusive use of the Italian Garden House and private orchard garden within which it is set. The entrance driveway and parking area (not visible once inside the house) are shared with the historic Italian Garden. This is currently under active restoration thanks to National Lottery funding and our dedicated team of volunteers. This means the car park is in use on volunteer working days (currently Mon, Thurs, Fri) and in the event of guided tours during visitor season (mainly April to October). You are welcome to wander around the Italian Garden and our volunteers will be happy to share its history and the work they are doing. It is an extraordinary garden with a fascinating story. Other things to note Babies under 1 year of age and children over 15 are welcome. We would not recommend this home for young children as the adjacent Italian Garden has many hazardous features!
