Description

Bay Tree Cottage is a peaceful, self-contained property situated in the picturesque village of Newton-on-Ouse, York. It benefits from single storey accommodation and has views overlooking the garden and fields to the rear. The property's location offers the best of both worlds, a peaceful country retreat yet only 7 miles away from the hustle and bustle of York City Centre with all the sights and joys it has to offer such as the world famous York Minster, Bar Walls and Shambles. The space Bay Tree Cottage will appeal to families but also be enjoyed by couples and groups. The single floor level accommodation means that the property may well be appreciated by our older or less mobile guests too who do not want a lot of stairs to climb (there is a small step at the front door and one into the walk-in shower). Parking: There is parking for 2 cars at the property, which can be reached via a private road. The cottage: The cottage is self-contained and offers open plan living and benefits from single floor level accommodation. It is situated at the end of a private track from which the village can be accessed. The garden: The garden is private, fully enclosed, lawned and paved and offers several comfy seating and table arrangements to enjoy al fresco dining and relaxation in a peaceful and tranquil setting where you are guaranteed to be serenaded by a chorus of heavenly birdsong! In good weather, the garden benefits from day long sunshine, and pretty solar lights create ambience once the sun goes down. The bathroom: The bathroom is modern and has a towel radiator and electric walk-in shower (there is a step up to the shower). *Please note* water pressure will be lower in colder months due to the shower heating up colder water. All towels, loo rolls, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner and hand soaps are provided for your stay. The hallway: There is a hallway with an electric radiator and utility cupboard with coat hooks, extra storage space, and a selection of cleaning materials that are available for your use. Sleeping arrangements: There is a comfy, standard sized double bed in the main bedroom with an electric radiator and 2 sets of wardrobes and drawers that offer ample storage space. There is also a television with Freeview and Netflix (own subscription and log-in is required) in the main bedroom. The second, smaller bedroom/bunk room has adult sized bunk beds, a chest of drawers, and wall and door hangers. If you look out of any of the rear windows, then you may be lucky enough to spot the rabbits or deers on the field! There is also additional sleeping in the main living area in the form of 2 x small double sized, pull-down bed sofas. Mattress toppers are provided for extra comfort. All bedding and laundry are provided for your stay. We do have a travel cot, available upon request which fits in the double bedroom or in the living/dining area. There is not enough space in the bunk room. Kitchen/Dining & Living areas: The kitchen, dining, and living areas are all open plan which maximises entertainment and socialisation opportunities. A selection of games is provided for your enjoyment. The kitchen offers a coffee maker with pods, a double Neff oven, a dishwasher, an electric hob, a fridge freezer, a microwave, and all necessary electrical appliances, crockery and utensils you will need to enjoy your stay. The dining area has a good-sized, extendable table and 4 to 6 comfortable chairs (arranged depending on occupancy). The dining area leads into the living room area and offers further seating and a cosy multi-fuel burner. A scuttle of smokeless coal and bag of logs will be provided for any stays commencing in 2024. There is a television with FreeView, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and Netflix (please note: Your own log ins and subscriptions are required to access Disney+, Amazon Prime Video and Netflix). Free WiFi is available. We can remove the foot stool if you would like more space in the living area. The property has a carbon monoxide detector, a fire blanket, fire extinguishers and Fire Angel smoke detectors, and a First Aid kit for your safety. Guest access Guest access is via a key safe near the front door of the cottage. The cottage and grounds are for sole use of our guests. Other things to note The village of Newton-on-Ouse is located at the gates of the National Trust owned Beningbrough Hall estate which is surrounded by magnificent countryside views, woodland and riverside walks and is home to Newton Beach, one of York’s best kept secrets! The area is popular and frequented by dog walkers, fisherfolk, cyclists, ramblers and nature lovers alike. Newton-on-Ouse benefits from 2 award winning family run pubs and restaurants, The Dawnay Arms (ranked in the top 100 gastro pubs) and The Blacksmith Arms. Both offer fabulous inside and outside dining opportunities and dogs are welcomed in the bar area of the Dawnay Arms. If you fancy a night off from cooking then the Dawnay Arms also serves delicious homemade take away pizzas and a fish and chip van pays a visit to the village on a Thursday evening! There are also other take away options a short drive away. A leisurely stroll takes you to the National Trust property of Beningbrough Hall. Newton-on-Ouse is also well positioned for any horse racing fans as York, Wetherby, Ripon and Thirsk race courses are all within an easy commute. The village also has easy access to the North Eastern coastline, Yorkshire Moors and Dales as well as the market towns of Easingwold, Helmsley and Malton.
