The McCracken Bird and Beach guesthouse is located behind the main house. Made of central Texas limestone, the original owners and builders owned the town’s cement company and this is where they built their first home. The 1937 wooden guesthouse has been fully renovated to feature modern luxuries. Hints from the past are reflected in the kitchen cedar backsplash and ceiling, which was once in the cedar closet. Several original windows remain and nearly all the exterior is original. Entering the space, steps away from your car, you will be shaded by the canopy of oak trees over a spacious deck. The kitchen has all the necessities with 2 seated spaces at the bar. You will find a TV viewable from everywhere in the kitchen and living space with a spacious sofa and movable side tables. Lifting up chaise lounge storage in the sofa you will find a tv tray, bedding, pillows, and and blankets. The sofa is also a sleeper sofa. Pocket doors allow privacy in the spa bathroom with an oversized mirror, lighted makeup mirror, motion foam organic soap dispenser, hair dryer, bluetooth speaker, facial masks, makeup removing wipes, and toiletries. Entering the bedroom you will find a king size bed with 2 side tables featuring lamps, reading material, games, alarm clock with sound machine, and USB ports. In the spacious closet there are 2 luggage racks, games, beach towels, chairs, umbrellas, extra king sheet set, iron, and ironing board. The office space is where you want it to be, maybe outside, on the couch, or at the bar. There is a traditional desk with pen, paper, light, cord, screw driver set, and usb surge protector. The exterior features a luxury outdoor shower with both hot and cold water, hose, and hooks to hang wet items. The garden is full ll of herbs and pollinator plants that draw in hummingbirds and butterflies. Eating outdoors enjoying the cool breeze with is peaceful overlooking the garden. A collection of succulents are planted in baby shoes. They adorn the exterior shelves. Motion detecting lighting makes it easy to enter and leave at night. Private parking is in the driveway under security cameras, directly next to the guesthouse. Keyless entry makes access simple as you are provided your own personal access code for the duration of your stay. Let our guests paint a lovely image for you and read our reviews. We look forward to hosting you! Guest access Guests have full access to the guesthouse and exterior space that totals around 950 square feet. There are fresh herbs in the garden and farm fresh eggs on the counter (rinse before use). I provide a basic breakfast with coffee and tea. I offer all sorts of packages, like anniversary, birthday, honeymoon, babymoon, proposals, etc. I can offer flowers, chocolates, decorating, stocked refrigerator, and other desired amenities, but you must make your request 5 days in advance and it does cost extra according to your request. *Long term stays include biweekly cleaning. *Laundry services available upon request. *Art is available and on display in the guesthouse. *Please note, the main house and backyard are private. There are chickens in the main house backyard and we request the gate remain closed. Dogs are also on the owner’s main house yard, which is not accessible to the guesthouse. ** Guesthouse is absolutely NOT suitable for children under the age of 13. It is especially UNSAFE for small children. Falling/tipping hazards, no room for necessities (ie pack/play, etc), prickly plants and cactus, tall chairs, no bathtub, rocks, concrete, stone. **The owners of the guesthouse are not responsible for any guest injuries. **Pets, shooting off fireworks, smoking and/or vaping are NOT allowed on the premises. $200 FINE for each infraction. $1,200 FINE by the city for fireworks. I’m Other things to note Spring migration is phenomenal. There are feeders (when bird flu isn’t present) in the front of the property. An oven bird has made itself comfortable in our backyard the past couple years. In one day I photographed 31 species on the property in the morning and afternoon. The heritage oak trees attract the birds for refuge. At the end of our street is Cole Park, where summers include live music, movies, and more. The downtown beach is a bit further to the left and then you’re downtown. You can get around by foot and easily walk to Spohn Hospital. A simple breakfast is provided of all organic bread, butter, jam, farm fresh eggs, coffee and tea, creamers, and sweeteners. The kitchen is stocked with necessities. A guest gift basket can be ordered with locally made items and additional seasonal tastes of the town. We aim to please and can make custom orders.
