Description
Nestled among wildflowers on Columbia’s bike boulevard, this remodeled home features a covered front porch and a back deck overlooking native plant and pollinator gardens—lush in spring, rustic and messy in fall. Enjoy a cozy gas fireplace at the push of a button and a fully equipped eat-in kitchen for family meals. Centrally located, it’s just minutes from downtown and a short drive to all campuses, with a walkable, bike-friendly neighborhood. *Please read entire listing before you book. The space Two small bedrooms with queen beds are on the main floor with a remodeled vintage bath featuring a clawfoot tub. Downstairs is another large bedroom with a queen bed and a modern bathroom/laundry combo with a soaking tub/shower across the hall. The large eat-in kitchen is full of light and features maple cabinets, quartz countertops, a gas stove, double ovens, a microwave, and various coffee-making gadgets including a grinder, coffee maker, a press, pour-over, and an aero press. Seating for 6 is available with the table extended and there is seating for two on stools at the kitchen island. If you're planning to cook a large family meal, feel free to make requests for anything you might need. We have a low scent home. No artificial "air fresheners" or overwhelming detergents. The front porch features comfy outdoor furnishings and a dining set for 4. The gardens are wild and unkempt native plants for pollinator habitats. They naturally look best in the spring and early summer and tend to be overgrown in the late summer and fall. This home was a labor of love for us. It has been a near-complete gut and remodel, including the entire foundation! There are many details of the original home including some original doors, hardware, and trim. We utilized salvaged materials whenever possible including the pine shelves in the 2nd bedroom which were old rafters from the attic, many old salvaged doors and hardware from other homes, and the vintage clawfoot tub and sink. Even the maple cabinets in the kitchen were previously used. The raw edge walnut mantle and window seats in the living room were rescued from a city right of way project and then cured and finished ourselves. Even the limestone in the front retaining wall came from a downtown church. We hope you'll appreciate these details as much as we do. Enjoy your stay! Guest access Guests will have access to all outdoor spaces, all of the main floor, and half of the basement of this home. The second story is kept locked and occasionally used by your hosts through a separate entrance. The driveway is shared. Please be sure to park fully on the appropriate side of the driveway. Other things to note Important Things to Know Before Booking: We want you to feel comfortable choosing our home and happy with your stay, so please read carefully before booking: Next-Door Property The house next door is vacant and currently in very rough shape. It’s owned by us and is scheduled for demolition soon. We’re in the process of clearing it, but for now it looks rough and the yard is overgrown. Wild Gardens Our yard is planted with pollinator and habitat gardens rather than manicured landscaping. These natural gardens provide food and shelter for bees, butterflies, and birds, but they can look untidy and overgrown, especially in the fall. If you prefer trimmed and manicured lawns, this might not be the right fit for you. Neighborhood We’re located in West Ash, a diverse and eclectic neighborhood. You’ll find a mix of home styles, conditions, and neighbors who walk, bike, and enjoy the area. It’s not the suburbs. It’s full of diversity and character. Please be sure you’re comfortable with that before booking. Low-Scent Home We avoid artificial fragrances in detergents, soaps, and air fresheners, though our home isn’t officially fragrance-free. Host Access We live a few miles out of town but keep a separate space on the second story that is accessed through a separate private entrance. The spaces are totally separate (aside from heating and cooling) with no shared areas. You may see us during the week for lunch or an occasional night in town on the weekend. We are committed to being quiet and respectful of your stay. A portion of the basement is locked from guests for storage. All security cameras are located at outdoor entryways.
