The Mill of Besalú (House with garden)

The only isolated holiday accommodation house in the beautiful historic complex of the medieval town of Besalú, considered one of the most beautiful towns in the country. The former home of the miller's family has three exterior spaces (porch, garden and large orchard) and two floors: the lower one with a living/dining room and open kitchen and the upper one with a bathroom and three bedrooms. At the foot of the living room, a typical entrance porch, with a beautiful Dutch wooden bench and table, becomes a fantastic outdoor dining room where you can extend the nights. On the upper floor, there are three bedrooms (two with a double bed and one with two single beds) and the charming bathroom with an old stone sink. In front of the house, a 60 square meter garden, attached to the porch and with native vegetation, connects, through a small private bridge over the waterfall, with a stately historic orchard full of plants and 600 square meters with old laundries, wooden tables and centenary trees where a comfortable double hammock rocks. The decoration has preserved the original elements of the house such as the stone walls from the neighboring Fluvià river, the wooden beams or the terracotta floors. Wood, well present on walls and furniture, achieves, together with natural fibers and a palette of brown and beige colors, a highly relaxed country atmosphere connected with the nature of its magical surroundings. From its walls hang, on the one hand, original engravings that refer to the rich past of the town and the activity of the flour mills and, on the other hand, old photographs of the historical environment where the house is located. Natural fibers, such as linen, wool or cotton, achieve, in bedspreads, towels, cushions and curtains, the serene and homely atmosphere typical of the houses of yesteryear. In its interiors, the wood, glass and metal utensils typical of a typical country house stand out: demijohns, basin jars, baskets or beveled mirrors shine next to walls covered with traditional glazed ceramics. The mill is an authentic oasis of nature and tranquility a few meters from the historic center with its spectacular Romanesque bridge, the narrow streets of its Jewish quarter, its medieval squares, a wide gastronomic offer and a privileged natural environment.
