Description
Escape to your own off-grid cabin on our 3000 acre farm. Just you, the birds, the bees and the cows! Platypus Cabin is a self-contained off the grid home with beautiful nature-inspired styling, kitchen, bathroom, luxe linen bedding and outdoor bathtub perfect for a romantic couples getaway or to spend some time alone immersed in nature. Located 50km from Armidale on the picturesque Waterfall Way, Platypus Cabin is close to several beautiful National Parks if you are keen to hike and explore. The space Platypus Cabin is decked out with all you will need to enjoy a relaxing and secluded stay away from the hustle and bustle. The queen bed is comfortable and supplied with linen bedding, extra blankets and plenty of extra pillows. The space is cosy but spacious at 9m x 5m with a fabulous 27m2 deck for outdoor living. In winter it is economically warmed by a romantic woodfire, or by a gas heater and in summer large sliding flyscreens allow for great airflow and it is just brilliant to let nature right in as you hear the nearby waterfalls running, birds calling and, at night, the frogs, owls and microbats getting busy. The kitchen is equipped with a toaster, microwave and dishwasher (though we encourage you to use the electronic items sparingly at night and on cloudy days), and has a 2 burner gas cooktop with whistling kettle for a relaxing cup of tea or coffee. The pantry is stocked with tea, coffee, sugar, flour and some condiments for you to use as you wish and a choice of 3 cereals will be available for you as a complimentary touch. All cooking utensils, pots and pans are provided - quite an extensive range for both indoor and outdoor cooking. The BBQ is great as an oven alternative with its hood and temperature gauge. The bathroom has been designed, like the rest of the house, to mirror the outdoors around it - timber, pebbles and greenery. It has a toilet, shower and sink with shampoo, conditioner, soap and body wash provided for you. Of course, if you are feeling adventurous, the outdoor bathtub is available for your use too, just to help you relax a little bit more and soak up the view. The house is located about 1.5km from where we live, but very private and out of sight. You will find that this is a great place to stay if you want to spend time in an undisturbed and peaceful wildnerness. Guest access Platypus Cabin is accessible along 2.5km of well maintained gravel road that is suitable for all types of vehicles (I drive a small 2 wheel drive car!). The Cabin is entirely yours for the duration of your stay and we will endeavour to leave you as undisturbed as possible. We are also happy to meet you though if that is something you would like :) Other things to note As Platypus Cabin is not connected to mains power, that is it is off-the-grid, please be mindful of your power usage during your stay. Of course, we have done our best to install energy efficient LED light bulbs, LED TV and other appliances, without foregoing too many luxuries, but remember that your power will be coming entirely from the sun so keep an eye on the weather prior to and during your stay and use commonsense, especially when using power-hungry appliances like the toaster, microwave and dishwasher. On cloudy days, especially during the winter months, our battery bank may not charge fully before night falls and it is not advised to use the dishwasher on these days and to use other appliances only during daylight hours. Remember, cooking with gas and good old fashioned washing up is always an alternative to using electricity. If the power does happen to go out during your stay due to over usage of power, there will be a $250 call out fee for us to come and run the generator to charge your batteries. It is very unlikely this will happen to you if you remain mindful of your power usage though - we know these things happen at times, even to us!
