Wild off-grid cosy shepherds hut near Frome.

Description

Our hut is a characterful, rough-hewn retreat space, wonderfully cosy especially once the woodburner's lit. Perfect for getting back to nature - enjoy an evening under the stars around the fire. Sheep snoozing on your doorstep. Guests can explore the 2 lakes, & a wealth of wildlife - kingfishers, woodpeckers, herons, beavers (!) and deer, and a lovely shady area of woodland . 2 miles from Frome's bustling market. Longleat is nearby (listen out for the lions' roar!). 1/2 hr drive from Bath. The space The hut has a stable door, a simply-equipped cooking space, with a 2 ring gas stove, plus plates, cutlery, saucepans and condiments. Olive oil, sugar, tea and ground coffee included. We can also provide a chill bag and ice blocks, and can swap them around each day if you need. In the shepherds hut there is a small table with 2 chairs, and a large bed with bedding, a loaded wood burner, 2 full water bottles, and 3 small recycling/rubbish bins. There's also a picnic rug for lolling on, and an umbrella! As the hut's in a field, it might be worth bringing wellies if it's been wet. Hanging on the front of the hut is a saw and loppers for you to create your own fire from the stash of firewood nearby, so you can settle down under the stars and relax into a slower pace for a couple of days. There are usually 3 very large sheep in the field, who are usually quite friendly and often interested in snacks! Please be sure to always close the field gate when you use it. Thank you. There are also some lovely walks in the area, in woods and by a river - we can help with directions if that's takes your fancy. Guest access Guests have the shepherds hut to themselves, including a small private grassy area and fire pit area in front of the hut. You are welcome to explore the 3 acres of orchard, wooded area and lakes. There is also a simple washroom in the car parking area, with a toilet and washing up facilities, plus a kettle for hot water. There is also a power point for charging devices. The washroom is about 70 metres from the hut, which is in a large grassy and wooded area off the main drive. Other things to note The shepherd's hut is off grid, which means that there is no running water or electricity to it. It is located in a field about 50 metres walk on grass from the car park. Sorry, no candles - too much wood around in a small space. We provide small battery lights, and there are fairy lights around the bed. There is potential for noise due to a nearby railway line. The toilet and sink are located in the car park - approx 70m from hut. There is no 'proper' shower, but there is a little camping-style shower in the poly tunnel near the hut! It consists of a water container which you pump to pressurise, (easy to do), and then that flows into the shower head above you. The container is inside a black plastic bag, so it's usually tepid providing the sun comes out! Guess you could always top up the container from the kettle in the hut! PLEASE NOTE - that the hut is a no-smoking area – thank you for respecting this. The atmosphere is a gentle and relaxing retreat, so not really the right space for a high party vibe!
