Description
The Apiary is a converted hayloft sitting at the end of a 16th Century Dartmoor Farmhouse, a short ten-minute walk from Widecombe in the Moor and 200m from the Two Moors Way. With it’s own private parking & entrance, the elegantly furnished room features an eclectic mix of antique furniture and Smeg kitchen appliances. From April to August, wander 50m down the road to a five-acre wildflower meadow with a Dartmoor stream and a collection of wild orchids & swathes of native wildflowers. The space Enter the space through the entrance hall, where guests can leave boots and hang coats after a day exploring the moors. In front of you is a comfortable bathroom, including a large rose head shower and Burlington toilet suite with complimentary environmentally friendly toiletries. Step through to the open-plan room with a vaulted beamed ceiling. The room features a large and comfortable double bed, dressed in soft linen and deep quilted luxury hypo-allergenic duvet and pillows. The bespoke handmade kitchen was built using reclaimed local wood, and bought up to date with a Smeg oven and hob, fridge, and Dualit kettle and toaster. There is also a TV in the room, as well as a good Wifi connection. Private parking and an electric three point plug charging point is offered directly outside the house and you can access the space without needing to navigate any steps. As part of your stay, between April and September, you will also have access to our five-acre wildflower meadow. The meadow was painstakingly reinstated by the previous owner, who traveled around Dartmoor collecting hay & seed from other meadows featuring rare species he wanted to add. The meadow features clouds of wildflowers that bob in the breeze on this south-facing slope, alongside a collection of rare tree and shrub species, a legacy from when the house was run as a plant nursery. Paths are mowed through, enabling you to wander around and enjoy the flowers that keep on coming through the seasons. Benches are situated at key points for you to enjoy the view and there is also a picnic table by the gently babbling Dartmoor stream. The meadow has been featured in many prestigious publications and was previously open to the public for over thirty years as part of the National Garden Scheme. We generally wander around the meadow for a morning or evening walk, but other than this, you'll have it to yourself. The Apiary has been named as such as directly below it are two 'Bee Holes' built for the farmer to store his bee-skeps or hives to keep them out of the rain. These days, the holes are bee free, and our bees are kept some way further down the garden. Guest access You will have private access to the entire of The Apiary accommodation as well as a private parking space directly outside. Access to the meadow is shared with the owners of the house - please see above for more details.
