The Cob House: private & unique Adirondack cottage
Handmade cob house lovingly created by us from sand, straw, clay & other found objects. Perfectly unique "glamping" getaway nestled in our back field surrounded by woods & a quiet stream. Close to many Champlain Valley attractions in Essex, NY in Adirondack Park (10 min. from VT ferry, 30 min. from High Peaks). Simple, rustic, private retreat complete with outhouse, cook shelter, wood stove & cold outdoor shower. Cozy launching point for adventure! Unplug & enjoy!(no Wifi, limited cell service) The Cob House is a one-room cabin with a sleeping loft tucked privately away in the corner of our property on the NY side of Lake Champlain. Guests have the whole cabin, cook shelter, fire pit, outhouse, house-fed outdoor sink and shower (cold, hose warmed by sun) to themselves (we are just up the hill to help answer any questions). No light pollution- the stars are incredible! Designated parking for one car at the trail head- short walk to the cabin (garden cart provided to help move gear.) Woodstove inside, fire pit outside (wood provided). We are on the outskirts of Essex, NY (a rural farming community in the Champlain Valley). We have ten acres of fields and woods. There is a private parking spot labeled "Cob House Parking" with a garden cart to take your belongings down the trail to the cabin. The only other dwelling on the property is our home. The Cob House is located on our 10 acre property, just off Route 22 between Whallonsburgh and Wadhams, New York. Our home is just up the hill. Parking for the Cob is an easy 3-minute trail walk. The Cob House is a little cabin we built on the back edge of our property. There is a designated parking spot and wooded trail to the cabin. We have a ten acre homestead with our little farm house and a barn at the front, and lots of private field and woodland space down below by The Cob House cabin. We are located on the outskirts of Essex, NY between the towns of Westport and Willsboro (specifically between the villages of Whallonsburgh and Wadhams). Our property is just down the road from the old Whallonsburgh train depot. We have one neighbor across Route 22 and one behind us beyond the stream and across a field. There is an old oxbow lake (formed by the Boquet River) just across Route 22 with a few beaver lodges and abundant waterfowl. Our property is located on the north side of the road between two bends in Route 22. Parking for The Cob House is posted with a sign on the west bend (first bend coming from Westport). Park and grab the wagon to walk from the parking area to The Cob House. Signs mark the way. They have reflectors mounted on them so bring a headlamp if you are arriving after dark. We can give detailed directions to many swimming spots, all within a couple of miles. We are centrally located to miles of Champlain Area Trails(CATS) walking paths and mountain hikes. Wadhams has a wonderful bakery five minutes down the road. Essex and Westport have yummy restaurants ten minutes away. The nearest grocery is in Elizabethtown 15 minutes west. Ticonderoga and Plattsburgh are the nearest medium size towns about 45 minutes away. Private parking marked "Cob House Parking" down the street from our house. No neighbors or neighborhood to speak of, just peace and quiet with nearby access to great trails! The Cob House is the best of both worlds- a peaceful, quiet, comfy little home with electricity and a wood stove, as well as all the amenities of an awesome campsite (outhouse with a view, fire pit, outside shower, stainless steel three basin wash stand, cook shelter with large propane stove). Private and secluded yet close to adventure. Please note there is no WiFi, and cell service is limited depending on your carrier).
